Tranny Reinstall .. TOB Problem ...

Well ... another day gone by still no finished vehicle ... Took the tranny in and out 4 times today ... No matter WHAT we do, we cant get the clutch fork to release ( i think its release)

My best assumption is a problem with the throwout bearing or something.

Clutch fork sits in middle, has roughly 1/4" play to drivers side,

Impossible to push by hand to the pass side

install slave ... bleed... depress clutch pedal ... Slave pushes fork to pass side, it makes a loud click, and does not return....

Is there something special im supposed to be doing when putting the tranny back in?? is the clutch fork supposed to be in a certain position?? Is the lock ring not seating on the TOB .. im lost and stumped and frustrated and ready to take a plasma cutter to the car and part it out!

IT should be locked into the throwout bearing evo=pull type clutch search on the how to's and that should give you some more detailed info.

so the clutch fork is in the middle that sounds about where it should be. When you install the tranny the fork will be on the passenger side and you just push it a little towards the driver and it should pop and hold near middle.

sounds like the TOB isnt locking and staying locked into the retainer in the pressure plate. inspect the locking ring for install damage.

you popped the clip in the pressure plate on the install.. thats why the TOB wont hold in place.

Same thing happen to me too. I don't know what you use to reinstall the tranny back to the engine but I finally invested into a engine hoist. That really help me with my reinstall. Got to make sure the splines on the tranny doesn't knock off the clip on the pressure plate. When the tranny is about to go in, make sure you always check through the inspection hole so that the shaft or whatever that thing is call is in the middle and is not hitting anything. Once you got the tranny bolt on, you just need to push the fork to the driver side until you hear a click. It should be in the middle position. Not all the way to the driver side. put back the clutch line and slave cylinder to make sure you can shift gears. If you can, you should be good. Hope this helps

Well, glad you got it to work
