Clutch fork and TOB questions

Hey guys and gals,

I recently installed my transmission along with a Competition Clutch and OEM flywheel. The comp clutch came with a new TOB and alignment tool. The transmission is installed and I'm buttoning everything back up when I realized that the clutch release fork sits on the far passenger side. I can move it to the middle / towards the driver side but I have to do it manually. I am worried that the used clutch release fork springs are weak and won't re-center the fork on their own. I can look up from the bottom service window and see that the TOB appears to still be attached and it does move through a range but I don't see how the clutch will be released if the fork doesn't move back to center on its own. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TOB isn't snapped into the clutch. Once it is you won't be able to move the the clutch fork without assistance of hydraulics.

Okay, how do I snap it into the clutch? Can I do that with the transmission installed (please say yes)?

Yes. Actually, that is the only way you can do it.

I stick a deepwell socket over the end of the throwout arm and with a big yank towards the driver's side fender - done.

barneyb,

Is there any risk of knocking the clip of the TOB off? Isn't that why STM sells a clutch release fork stopper?

Well, it has to be snapped into place to ever work. Most people just do it with their hand. I think a monoloc, which I used, takes a little more force.

Okay, but are the springs used on the clutch release fork supposed to pull the TOB back towards the engine / pressure plate?

I'll have to upload pictures of where my fork sits and see what people think.

I just installed a 5 speed in my MR with a monoloc and i had to you some good force to get it to snap in place then hook up your slave and watch the fork threw the inspection hole while someone pushes down the clutch pedal to make sure it is locked in place

The springs on the throwout arm move the TOB towards the transmission or the end of the throwout arm towards the engine.

Did you have the throwout arm out of the bellhousing? There's four ways you can install the springs and only one is right.
