Towing capacity
So havn't been on for along time but got a question. Want to start halling my bike to the race track and don't realy feel like buying a truck or somthing todo it.
Now I have 2004 ralliart and on the specs it lists as 1000lbs towing capacity, Obviously that to little as my bike wet is about 350 and even if I find an all aluminum trailer its going to be around 750 not inculding the weight of tools/gas/tires/etc......
So how can I incress the towing capacit of my car? is it simply just rated at 1000lbs beacuse of the breaks? or is it more based on the actully design of the car and that the frame can't handle anymore.
Any thoughts (besides buying a new vechical). Just need more HP or what technical is needed to incress, and has anyone gone down this road before and have any advice
Thanks

first and foremost I would imagine it's braking power and weight of the car. too much weight being towed can upset the vehicle when braking. our oem brake equipment is probably not going to provide consistent stopping with a trailer, but a pad and rotor upgrade would probably be good enough. there are more options for brakes than just oem too
The reason for the low towing capacity is because there's no strong point on the rear of the car to mount a hitch that will allow for more than 1k pounds without tearing the car apart. If you do tow, brakes and an upgraded clutch would be a good idea, not sure how long the stock clutch would last with an extra 1,000 pounds dragging behind the car.

Thanks Otter, I'll have to take a look at the frame and see if it can reinforced or something. I'm already looking at upgrading the brake and such but that kinda sucks about just not being able to support the weight todo design not power/breaking. The track is close and can do the whole ride there and get it race ready in the pits but the chance of a crash or something failing just dosn't make for a fun trip home.
