Transmission...

im really afraid i might need a new trans or atleast a new new clutch. if its only the clutch im not worried, ill go with an ACT stage 1 but in regards to the trans, are there any other vehicles that have a swappable trans? reason being, if i need a new one ill try to salvage one from a junk yard if i can find one.

Why would you need a new trans? It's servicable, so if something needs replacing, it's not a big deal. Contact someone like TRE, they could probably do a full rebuild + beef it up for about $1k.

well thats the thing i dont have anywhere NEAR that kind of money where as if i could find a trans with low mileage for a few hundred id take it and put it in myself. i know its serviceable its just that the dealership costs an arm and a leg for the littlest things.

the only gears im having problems with is first second and reverse...go figure lol...but i think it might be the synchros because its not grinding in any gears except 3rd at high high rpms, it just has ridiculous kick back out of 1st and it cant find second unless i pause at neutral before going in or double clutch. itll get like have way into 2nd but wont go all the way down or catch or even grind...? and reverse feels like its fighting me to even move the car, like it wants to go forward.

well if you dont have a grand, then your screwed, because even if it was your clutch, its 500 dollars and then another 500 to have someone install it.

syncros are around 200 a peice. and about 150 for install.

i would think its a tranny pump. and in that case it sounds like you let the problem go and you ruined the gears in your tranny.

i kinda have the same problem, except for me its going into 3rd and 5th, im flushing my tranny fluid this weekend while i do my 60k service, if that doesnt help then im probably gonna re-do the synchro's and if all else fails the whole tranny.

idk if it helps, but with me i've noticed i only have to pause in neutral before i shift into the gear if i rev the engine into the mivec rpm range...

if you do it yourself, how much will the parts cost to rebuild the tranny? (synchros)

Thanks! hopefully it's not too expensive. I pretty much do all my own work on my car... saved myself over $5000 already on labor good luck and hopefully it's nothing too serious

well I am noticing that the shifting is much smoother since i changed the tranny oil, it definitely has helped the problem however i still get the grinding if i shift hard into third which leads me to believe the synchros aren't functioning right, although it is happening noticeably less frequently.

with school starting up really soon i dont have the time or money to worry about fixing that right now, im just gonna have to be really easy on my car for awhile

What fluid are you running? If it's still the OEM fluid, consider switching to BG II or Amsoil, it makes a huge difference.

wow didnt think this thread was active anymore lol...i figured out my problem..it was a hydraulic issue with the clutchline. i dont know exactly what it was but i ordered the ss line from RRM and it removes the restrictor between the master cylinder and the slave cylinder and its been working since...only problem im having now is a slight grind going into second now. i changed the trans fluid and put in some GM synchromesh because i heard it works wonders with grinds but i feel no difference . i felt like i should replace the upper rubber line as well soo i ordered the WORKS ss line and im putting it in tomorrow. as for the synchros i think i need a new 2nd gear synchro

hey ottter or joeyj, im coming up on 70k miles...readies flame suit...should i have changed the timing belt or done any specific maintenance? my pulley belt is only a few months old, brake pads were done in may, just changed my spark plugs, new trans fluid, anything else?

I would change the timing belt. While you are in there i would inspect the water pump and your cam/crank seals for any leakage.
