grinding noise when on throttle in turn when cold
I have the exact same sound when i turn in cold weather. I thought it was snow so i went to the car wash one day (while it was cold) and it was making the sound prior to washing it. Cleaned out the wheel wells with hot water and got all the crap outta there, and after that its been fine. Even the next day while there was no snow build up it was good, until it snowed and ice and snow built up again. Now it makes the sound again, so i assumed it was just snow and ice build up and haven't thought twice about it.
hey guys.
Sounds like this is a pretty common problem with these cars i have noticed this happening over the last little while with my car too. I have 57000 km on my car and whenever its cold out this will happen but only untill my car has been driving for a while then it goes away. Iv also noticed that if i wash the inside of the wheel wells out it goes away for a while and Iv been trying to figure out what the problem is.
Any luck with the dealerships or are they still saying cv joint grease and such nonsense???

maybe it's the cv joint getting worn, and then it wears to a certain point and then it binds as it turns? or maybe it's the strut bearing... i have no clue...
Ya I guess there's a lot of possibilities but strange thy it would happen so quickly on my car if only had it two years and don't even have 60,000 on it yet. But I have to take the car into west side on the 18th so I'll see what they have to say

another possibility is that it's the wheel bearing. the dealer said that mine was worn, so that might be the cause of all the noise when there is lateral load on it.
happens to me too. Only when I'm just turning the wheel on a cold start. Ie backing out of a parking space. After the first turn, it stops. Only happens on cold days. I'm in atlanta and its 70f out today, so I think I won't see it again til december
That also cancels the snow option
If all goes well, I'll have an X before the next cold spell anyway
I also suspect the CV. I think that the grease is getting run a bit thin and showing its age in the cold. Its needs spread out/warm up over the first few cycles.

Ok so I went and got my service done today at west side and I spoke to them about the problem and they said it's a common problem in these cars because they use rubber bushings that don't like to move or give I de it gets to cold but it's nothing to worry about they said, hopefuly that's the case. They took a look anyway and said everything looked good

cool cool, I can't think of any rubber bushings in the front unless it's the lower control arm bushings, but i don't know why it would grind like that. w/e, probably not too much to worry about then.
btw, while you were there, did you happen to see a grey 05 lancer Ralliart...? lol, jk.. I want my baby back =(

^ dood man i'll drive to west side mitsu today for the giggles of it and see if ur car is there hah. havent driven my car in 3 days. been avoiding the weather. seems warmer out now. maybe i'll stick my head out of my bunker.
That's very weird. It happens to me whether it's hot or cold, turning left or right.
I took my car in to my favorite shop to fix an exhaust hanger that came loose (got nudged on the rear) and they checked the cv joints and said the boots are filled with grease, that the problem is some where else. He said it would also be very odd that both cv boots give out at the same time.
I haven't had time to take it in again but they said they will do a thorough inspection.. it might be just something that's loose in there.
I trust this shop very much and they know their stuff so I know they're not just trying to get money out of me. Been going there for 5-6 years.
