Valve Lash Adjustment...
Valve Lash Adjustment...
...so, I'd be interested in hearing peoples opinion, especially Otters (not to be picking on you).
When I was at the dealership for an oil change at 42'000 km, I spoke to the manager about the upcoming 48'000km service which includes the valve lash adjustment. He says that it's not necessary to do it at 48'000 and may not even be necessary at 92'000 but could be done if I wanted it to be done if I feel the valve lash may be off a bit.
He says that all of the ralliarts he seen didnt need the valve lash adjusted at 48'000, that it was still fine.
I realize he may be trying to save me some money, as odd as that sounds, but wanted to see what you guys thought.

I'd be fine to listen to him and skip it until the next interval. Even though I check mine every 30k, I haven't had to adjust it every 30k, sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's a bit off. There's no harm if it starts to go out of spec, just a bit of power loss and increased valvetrain noise.
Adjusting the gap between the rocker arm and valve stem. A gap too large, as Otter said, can decrease performance and you'll hear a 'ticking' noise from the engine as the rocker arm hits the valve stem.
