Now some questions reguarding resonators, mufflers, and cats.

45005 magnaflo high flow cat. Good, bad, ugly?

I'm looking for a deep exaust sound that is smooth, no rice cans please.
Any suggestions on which ones to buy? Local shop wants 350 plus tax for cat back with no resonator. Suggestions please.

Also found the cat for 200 shipped and 75 to install that. So around 700 total. Any better deals out there?

The highflow cat i got is from rrm and you cut a section off the dp and weld the hfc. As far as cat back, if its gonna cost you that much might as well get the rrm catback: its mandrel bent, comes with a resonator and bolt on. If your shop doesnt do mandrel then youre not getting what youre paying for.

I'll check how much they want for the whole thing: resonator, muffler, and make sure it is mandrel bend << How do I tell?? My main incentive for going with them is that I get to hear it with different equipment on until I like what I hear... but if they are gonna be overpriced I'm sure the RRM one would be fine. I'm almost tempted to just get RRM's high flow cat, and catback... I could put the catback on and have them weld in the cat. hrmmm yeah so like $700 plus shipping. I'll see what they say first.

I have a Magnaflow 45005 cat. on order for $200 What's the difference between this one and RRM's cat?? $100 difference in cost.

Also ordered an Authority short shift with 8pc bushings and 2 pc (underhood) bushings... as well as RRMs pully and clutch steel cable. Let the modding continue! I'll post pics I promise... just haven't been able to get out of the garage for 2 min yet.... might do a batch post when I get some more mods done.

Thanks for the advice so far!

Need some ZZZzzz

700 in my oppinion is outragous. I got my catback done for 95, granted that wasn't including the muffler(did that long befor catback, I have a magnaflow on it) but the shop I went to would have included muffler an pipe for 200. I have 2.5inch with no resonator, whice sounded nice and DEEP. But today I installed rrms header an downpipe I got used for 100(score me lol). And it seems to have a high flow welded into it(not 100percent if its highflow) but now I have a lil bit of ricey sound, which goes away after a lil bit. Kinda sounds like a street bike. But as for 700 no way. May as well drive to cali an go to my shop for that much an get a nice lil vacation lol

The bottom one of these two is mandrel-bent (smoother, keeps the diameter of the piping intact throughout the bend).

I agree with souless, $700 seems a bit too high.

Yeah $700 for a cat and catback is pretty high. I paid $250 to have my cat welded in, and the catback done at meineke. Total price for the header, DP, cat, muffler, and assembly was like $750.

Good to know. I've still been shopping around to see who in town does the best tuning/performance work. I'm looking for a guy that would be willing to advise me on parts and installation. Found a local guy that owns an mk4 supra with 650hp (another engine he's working on for it will do over 1000hp) and who actually did the body kit on my ralliart before I bought it!!!!

@ blackraven: THANKS for the clarification on the mandrel bends! Good info to know.

I approached him with the idea of advising me, and he seemed to be receptive to it. He also mentioned that he had his own full shop in his garage at his house... which could come in handy.

He will get back to me on the cost of a kit..... I'll try to post it here to get some opinions.

The more I get into this car stuff, the more I like it.

I think my goals for the car are changing with every mod I install. Before I was thinking bolt-ons, now I'm thinking boost it after bolt-ons and bulletproofing.

Somehow 300hp has entered my mind as a final goal for this car.

Update: Rear bumper aftermarket body kit fixed (it was sticking out before, now it fits better and looks BOSS!

More to come this weekend.

Some racing experts will say that above 200whp for a front wheel drive it just waste of power.

At 300hp your quarter mile times will be worst than stock because of all the wheelhop unless you use R compoud tires

I disagree completely. I'm not really that interested in tracking this car, and I could really care less how good it does in a 1/4 mile. I do a bunch of highway driving... I doubt 300hp would be a waste of power trying to get around a semi in 4th gear... not to mention it would take a very bad driver to loose to a stock ralliart on a 1/4 mile vs. a 300hp properly tuned and modded ralliart. Also, who are these so called experts, and do you know them personally?... or just stuff you read? (no offense ment) But that is ALL getting a bit

And besides "waste of power" isn't in my vocabulary.

Parts arrive tomorrow. (short shifter, pulley, clutch cable thingy, cat)

High flow magnaflo cat installed. Car is much quieter now. Also, authority short shifter installed with counterweighted knob. Bushings are still being shipped so those will go in later. Custom turbo is being designed as well. More details to come.
