Auto Trans Flush. Thoughts?

I'm thinkin about doin my automatic tranny fluid. I'm at about 56k right now.

I found the tech sheet for it

I guess our auto trannies need like 10 quarts. ugh. so thats about 50 bucks for the cheap ****, and as much as a 100 for some good stuff.

What do you automatic guys think? What have you guys used? I've searched around, and it seems theres all kinds of discussion on the M/T, but not much on out A/T.

I wonder how much the mechanic would charge for the tranny flush... Hmm.

Thoughts?

Two five gallon buckets, some extra cooler line, some fluid, and a lil time is all you need. Take the lines off of your trans cooler, find the in line and the out line. Hook them both up to about 3-4 feet of hose. Fill a CLEAN bucket with fresh fluid, run the in line to that bucket. Run the out line to another bucket. Have a friend start the car. When the fluid from the out line looks like the fluid from the clean bucket, shut it down, hook up your lines, fill to spec, done. Thats a trans flush. Better to get the filter and gasket kit, if available, and drop the pan, clean the magnet and pan, change the filter&gasket, and reinstall. Do this after the flush, since you will only remove about half of the fluid with the pan and gasket.

Hmm. I talked to Jiffy Lube about flushing the automatic transmission in my car.

They quoted me 150 plus 20 off with a coupon i have.

Considering the fluid alone cost half that, I'm wondering whether or not I should just take it in, because really, I have nowhere to do this flush. I live in apartments. Maybe I'll save up a little and have them do it.

Check the service interval. IIRC, auto trans isn't due for a fluid change until you hit 100,000 miles.

AT flush is due at 48000k(30000miles)/2 year service

i myself just had this debate to do it myself or have someone else do it

i bought 6 quarts(if you do it by hand without a flush machine you'll need 9 quarts) of the mitsu atf(as to keep it under warranty) and took it to the nearest quick fluid change place, might charge like $100 for the flush, and i opted for a flush additive similar to the engine flush cuz my AT fluid was pretty nasty

took like a half hour at the quick lube palce

whichever it is 30,000 miles or 100,000 miles, i think i'm gonna get it done soon. it feels like its shifting hard. nowhere near as hard as a manual, but when you have an a/t, you can tell the difference from when you first got it.

Robyn is right, just looked it up. On the severe schedule, both transmissions get new fluid every 30k. Personally, I've never seen an auto trans that calls for new fluid that often.

im gonna opt for buying the fluid myself and takin it down to speedee next door. i wanted to do a complete flush, but im low on funds at the moment. they're gonna charge me 40 bucks for a drain/refill if i bring the fluids.

the best quote i could find for just a drain/refill was 100 bucks (including the fluid) but if i get it from autozone the fluid comes out to only like 30 bucks or so.
