Unhappy The infamous P0171 HELP !

I'm stumped my car has been running some what poorly for a while and only recently I've got this code.

I get horrible gas mileage which is only getting worse it seems. Barely making 300kms a tank even if I baby it.

The car does some funny things when I'm stopped if I rev the motor just a tiny bit the AFR goes to 11.0 then jumps back 15.5 it also doesn't seem to stay as close to 14.7 as it used to I've seen it randomly at idle go way past 16 to -- on the gauge. Not all the time but it seems as though it's a struggle to keep it at 14.7

I'm getting a fuel pressure gauge and a compression tester tomorrow because I can't think of what else I could do, accepting all ideas.

I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump it was used when I got it.

Idle RPM is fine and Vacuum at idle is fine no bounching needles.

So far I've replaced/checked

02 Sensor
MAF
Spark Plugs

Checked for Exhaust Leaks
Checked Injector Resitance
Checked all vacuum lines including brake booster lines and check valve.
Boost Leak tested no leaks

You try the seafoam test i advised? It really sounds like your getting the fuel just not the air to go with it.
Also idk if you have the RRM kit or not but where they positioned the air filter it actually rubbed the 5th injector line an caused a leak. It was reading rich because it was spraying into the filter an into the intake.

Another thing that you can check is the TPS. It may be sending signals to your piggy that you are WOT thus causing that injector to spray.

Im just spitballin here.

The lean code. A pain in the ***. Like I said mine was fixed by increasing the Fuel in the piggy back by 2%. Dont you just love these mystery problems i have had to spend geez like 6 months+ trying to figure out whats wrong with mine and we finally traced it to the throttle body.

Going to check the TPS right now. How do I know which terminal is which ?

I tried this step:2.Measure resistance between the throttle position sensor side connector terminal No. 2 and terminal No. 3.
Standard value: 2.0 - 4.0 kΩ - I don't get any reading on this at all zip. I don't think I know which is terminal 2 and 3 lol

I did look at the 5th injector checked resitance. Mine is a little different as it's the old style where it stands almost straight up. I did consider a fuel leak but the smell would be a dead give away. Although on startup I have smelled gas which could mean I have a injector leaking fuel.

Man i wish i can help, but to be honest, I'll probably be down the same road as you in a few months, and i'll be looking at these threads to learn what you did to fix this.

Good luck with everything, and post up with you find to help fix this. we can all learn from this

and To be honest, if you going to keep your ralliart for ever (or at least for a good amount of time) i would just start looking into a stand alone. The piggyback is to hard to tune and manipulate, and its been proven that a reflash is taking WAY to long to get out there, and damn near pointless. Standalone is the only reliable way to go it seems. and I'll be doing that next stage of my build.

Either or, good luck. And thanks for posting up the info, i'm sure ill be needing in a few months time.

Sometime in late winter somebody will be working on a harness for our car for a megasquirt standalone. check out some of the most recent posts on my thread. SSP-ralliart is making one for his. Than mine. I know of a few other people interested. Maybe a group buy is in order? lol. If so, gonna have to do the group buy on club4g.org and thats gonna be months away.

Went back to exhaust leak checking and found 2. One at the downpipe on the side hardest to see and one at the external wastegate again underneath where I couldn't see. Looks like this is the problem.

Anyone want to tell me how the 02 Sensor gets the higher oxygen reading while exhaust is pouring out how does air get sucked in ?

because god hates ralliarts. duh.

Good job getting your finger on the problem. HOpefully fixing these 2 leaks will fix the problem. If not it'll still be a mystery diagnosis.

For some reason the downpipe doesn't line up right with the 02 housing. I had to use a small part of the old gasket and the new gasket to make a proper seal thats weird but it worked. I hope it lasts, need to get my transmission fixed so I can hear exhaust leaks

The leak at the wastegate is going to be a real pain though the connection from the wastegate to the down pipe is held on by bolts facing up rather than down so I don't think I can get at them but I'll have to somehow otherwise a lot of stuff will have to come off.

I really think those are your problems.
When i dug into the car to do the timing belt i had the same code as you did. After closer inspection i found a bunch of dif kinds of leaks underneath. It was leaking at the runners first off, then i found my wastegate leaking a little, then i found my licp would not bolt correctly. The weld was preventing the bolt from closing the gap.
After welding some parts and fixing other i cleared the code. Guess what? Its never come on since.(just as a note: ive had that code since i installed the turbo)

Have you tried replacing the coil packs?
