Weird sound when using A/C

Hey guys, its been a while.

Just recently when I've turned the AC on I'll hear a "wooshing" sound, kind of like the sound a hydraulic trunk hinge makes when you open it slowly. It'll do this it seems like every time I come to a stop and then start driving again.

The AC works but now that its warming up again I'm noticing that its not getting as cold either.

Odd I believe generally when you first turn on the A/C you hear that type of noise when condenser is kicking in. Have you checked your 'Refrigerant' level? Mine was low well almost empty actually when I got my first Ralliart. Refrigerant has oils in it too that your cooling system needs. Refilled to proper level worked great ever since. Not sure if it made a whooshing sound on stop and go cause I didn't leave it on because it wasn't blowing cold. Hope this gets you somewhere.

That sounds like it might be the problem, is refilling the refrigerant covered in the manual?

no, i dont think so... but most auto parts stores sell re-filling kits that are really quite simple. perhaps you should do a diagnostic of the AC system to see if its functioning properly.

thanks thomar thats what i was gonna say. I just used a refill bottle from the store I got the big one cause mine was so empty it has a gauge on it to show pressure generally instructions right on it way simple to use. CAUTION: The condenser kicks on and off while doing this cause you turn the a/c on while doing the service, anyway fill it then wait cause I'm not sure if it when the condenser is on or off but pressure changes to a bit higher and you don't want to over pressure the system.

So last week I tried recharging the AC, it worked for a few days and now the hissing sound is back.

When I turn on the air and press the AC button a "wooshing" sound starts and then it turns into a hissing sound (all coming from behind the center console), the hissing sound used to stop but now it just gets a little softer but is still there.

The air is just warm air. I haven't had it checked for leaks but I tried refilling it again and it said it was already full on the gauge.

Does anyone know whats happened?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and my cruise control was acting a little funny (turning off when I'd tap it downwards to slow down, sort of "stuttering" while increasing or decreasing the speed) and now it doesn't turn on anymore (the light doesn't work and the cruise control itself doesn't work), but that's a whole different thread...

I would check your tail lights and see if a bulb is on the way out. Our cruise control stops working if a tail light is out.

I replaced the cabin filter (the one behind the glove box) last week, although the problem has been happening before that.

I'm wondering if the cruise control issue is a fuse issue? Or is my wiring just done?

The way it acted before just completely shutting off is curious.

regarding the AC, more than likely you have a leak... it would need to be fixed.

you could check your fuses first i suppose. I'm not sure if there is a single fuse that would control the CC though.
