Unhappy AC Issue - HELP

Hi.

There is a loud ticking and sometimes knocking noise coming from the passenger side of my car. At first I thought it was an engine issue but after some diagnosis I think it is my AC system.

It happens a lot when idle. It seems like when my car is trying to turn on the AC it keeps clicking. I can almost hear the AC condensor fan clicking on and off in a flickering manner. I am trying to see if it is a relay or if it's the AC compressor itself. It can be a ticking sound and it clunks sometimes.

It seems to go away when I'm accelerating and the AC gets good and cold. It definitely stops when I turn off the AC.

This happens for the most part when I'm at idle when the AC is on.

What do you guys think?

That would be the best case scenario haha.

I was in DC for the whole winter as well. I first noticed this around June and now here I am in Phoenix.

The AC is working intermittently about 95%, but more on the working side, and I'm afraid to say it's for now.

That could be it. Is it replaceable without changing the whole compressor? The thing keeps ticking/knocking when I'm idling, especially when the engine has been running a while.

It doesn't do it at start-up/warm-up.

yes it is possible to just replace the clutch, is it worth over just buying a used compressor??? There is tests you can do on the clutch

OK. I have the manual so I'll look up tests on the clutch. I'd probably just get a new AC compressor or get it rebuilt instead of getting a used one at this point.

Anyone thinks it could be a relay or switch of some kind?

I would if I didn't live in Arizona.
