Question Issue with using firmware V 1.11 - A/C not working

Hey all,

I got a bit of an issue with my EVO 8. I bought it with an AEM unit installed with the A/C in non-working condition. As mentioned, the EMS is running on V 1.11. Anytime I turn the A/C on, the motor will rev up in anticipation of the A/C clutch kicking on, but nothing happens. All I get it warm air, and the A/C clutch won't kick on. I went into the A/C setup and checked the settings. Here is what it says:

A/C Min Speed - 500
A/C Off Above TPS - 89
A/C On Delay - 0.90
Idle A/C Load Comp - 10.94
A/C Request Input - Switch #2 Gnd=Off
A/C Output #1 - LS11
A/C Output #2 - IDLE5/6

I'm trying to figure out why the A/C clutch won't kick on. I'll be taking it to the shop to see if the A/C system is low on pressure. If the pressure is fine, then I know it's the EMS that's the issue. I just can't figure out what the correct setting is to make it work. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Your settings are correct.

Are you sure mechanically everything is in working order?

I'm not 100% sure, but I was informed the A/C system was working just fine. I'm beginning to doubt that. I wanted to ensure my settings were correct at first before trying out anything else. I will provide feedback on this as soon as I have the A/C looked at.

Ok, so I had the A/C recharged, and the A/C clutch still won't kick on. I checked all the fuses and relays, and they tested out to be good. I'm stumped at this point. Any ideas guys?

Go to View then parameters, open ls11 and see if they show on when you activate the a/c if it does then you have a problem external to the aem, i beleive you will see that it stays off which means criteria is not being met. If you want forward me the cal file and i can look at it. send me a pm and ill forward my email

Try reloading the 1.11 firmware.

It's fixed. Turned out that the EMS wasn't at fault after all.

It turns out that the plug going to the compressor was at fault. The power wire was frayed, but I had to really look to notice it. So the wire was treated with some soldering/retaping, the plug was put back on and $1.09 later (had to get tape), the A/C kicked on and I finally got cold air. All this thanks to my mechanic Matt at Slick Motorsports. If anyone of you is from Ohio, I highly recommend him for anything simple to really advanced car work. I usually work on cars on my own, but since I've got no time at all due to work - weekends included - it's worth it for me to pay someone I truly trust to work on my car. It sure feels great to be driving in this horrible midwest heat without feeling like I'm about to pass out due to dehydration!

The only issue now is having the RPM stay stable whenever I come to a stop with the A/C on. Anytime I disengage the clutch as I come to a stop or I slow down, the engine fluctuates the RPM before sitting at 1200 rpm. I'm going to have to check out the settings on the EMS and see what could be causing the weird idling issue.

Always nice when it's a cheap and easy fix, thanks for following up to let us know the actual fix.
