Would cost too much money. Sell and buy a manual.

Unless you can do all the work yourself, its not worth it. You would be better off finding a manual, and selling the auto like Ralliartize It said. You can also find more opinions on this topic by using the search.

yeah even if you did the work yourself, the time and headaches involved would be plentiful. sell and buy. remember the ECU/wiring, control harness, shifter, cables, hydraulics etc. would all be different. It would be a pain in the ***, that's for sure.

Us sportback owners are sol on this one. I still dream about doing a swap though.

I hate automatics, but I have to say that the auto that's in this car is the best one I've ever had. Another plus is that it turns 2800 rpm at 70 mph. I hear that the overdrive in the 5 speed car is a lot lower gear and they turn a lot higher rpms at highway speeds than the automatic cars.

If you have the plan and resources then go for it.

The world has way too many automatics.

We have spoke through PM, but he does not have what I want. I want (will never get) an automatic non-modded 04-06 RA with similar mileage.

It's definitely more trouble than it's worth, but if you want better performance from your auto then toss on a transmission cooler and a shift kit. Trans-Go offers an improvement kit for about $40-$50... It definitely makes a difference. Quick, firm shifts 100% of the time.

Understood. I love mine equally, but would love it more if it were an automatic (makes for easier drive in rush hour traffic daily), and got 30+ MPG (I can't top 28 ).
