This is a pretty serious issue........with two possible causes in my opinion.

1.) Timing is off. Car would idle fine but would just feel flat in every gear, slightly different exhaust note, ****ty gas mileage likely, and overall lack of power. The car would also vibrate a good amount, and may give you the valvetrain chatter.

2.) Balance shafts out of phase (time). Car may be pulling timing when it starts to vibrate hard.

Either of these if not fixed quickly, can trash an engine from the inside out. The vibration abuses bearings, and everything else that spins. I'd ask for my money back from the first guy, and if he refuses ask him if he'd like to pay for you're new shortblock!!!!

Exactly 95gst16g, I don't think I trust him to redo it correctly since he wouldn't listen to me about it from the get go. I tried to explain that it should be either a tooth advanced or a tooth retard and he said that that didn't make sense and that the marks were lined up just as it was when he first took the engine apart.

I've noticed that a lot of the vibration occurs in the transmission housing inside the car, so I'm wondering if maybe it could be just some bizarre coincidence that my throw-out bearings are bad at the same time as when I took my car in?

The thing shifts fine though, there's just a strange "woosh" sound when I put the clutch in while accelerating.

That being said, when i did my timing belt, i had no issues what so ever, nothing felt out of the ordinary. When you get your car fixed, the problems you had should be gone, and there shouldn't be any new ones, i would not let anyone work on my car unless they stand by their work instead of making bogus excuses. A new timing belt won't cause any vibrations.

you should have the front balance shaft checked.
That. In fact, when I got my 60k service done, I felt a significant change in how much more smooth everything felt. It almost felt like a brand new vehicle.

Report him to the BBB and BAR. Mechanics fear the BAR very much.

Took it to the mitsu dealership.

The car is better than it was but I still have vibrations and a strange noise when I clutch-in.

They said that they reset the idle and re-installed the timing belt/checked the balance shafts.

I don't know what else to do. I think I'll make a video so you guys can hear what I'm talking about, I'll post it up this weekend. This has been a huge hassle and I regret taking it to my dad's mechanic in the first place.

Would it be a stretch to take it to RRM and see if they can help me? I can't find their location but I remember it being close by to where I'm living now (not Palmdale)

Have a leak down test run on it. If the mechanic accidently let a cam jump while the belt was off, it may have bashed a valve or two against a piston. I've heard of this happening, not trying to freak you out but these things happen.
