WTF is wrong with 2005 ralliarts...

inner tie rod...I saw a video how to change inner tie rods, but since i didnt have the inner tie rod remover i took it to a local mechanic. At first he told me he can do it in 30 min (that mean he only charges me $30 labour) but after couple hours he called me and he says he needs to take out the whole side of the steering. He said it's gonna take him like 3-4 hours just to do that, so i took it to another mechanic and the guy told me the same thing. Is this only for 2005 models? Cause I saw one guy that posted a how to on 04 ralliart tie rod, and it didn't look like he had any trouble doing it. 400 bucks to change one tie rod? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Dude did you read my post? I said i can probably do it by my self if I didnt have to take apart the whole fking car. I asked two local mechanics and canadian tire, they all gave me the same answer.

I don't think Mitsu would have changed the entire front end in the course of a year/few years...can't see it being any different.

It's funny that they're telling you it's specialized work that will take 4 hours, considering mine were done in the drive way in about 2 hours, using a tie rod tool rented from CanTire.

Didn't have to remove anything more than the wheel and a boot (edit: well besides tie rod end and w.e, you know what I mean)

Strange.

Inner tie rod tool at Canadian Tire is $100 plus tax. You would get out ahead.

that....^^
i havent worked on any other RA than my 04..but i cant think its any different...get the tool..(i had one already...im a mechanic...)...get ur wheel off, outter tie rod off the knuckle, then off the inner tie rod, take the boot off, and take the inner tie rod off with the tool....then reverse for installation.. and get alignment asap...

i know its a tight spot(since ive done like 7 tierods total on mine..) but its doable...it does only take about 30 mins...if u take ur time...and make sure u get some zip ties to get the boot back on...it may take a few tries for the inner end on right...its a PITA to get it right(least for me it was....damn popeye arms...)...its kinda hard to get ur hands in there...it works best trying from the front(looking toward rear of the car and sticking ur hands in however u can between the subframe, swaybar etc)

Yea i saw how to remove and change them on youtube. I'm pretty sure i also can do it in 1 hour if i wanted to, but 3 mechanics told me they have to take off the whole steering for some reason. Maybe the guy before me did something really fked up to the steering...

they didn't say what the problem was? if it's just the tie rods, it's nothing major...

the only thing i can think of possible for that reason is that theres no inner tierods available for sale...

i know jags are like that(i work at a jag dealer..)...and u "need" a whole steering rack instead of just a tierod...AND theyre not available aftermarket...so u can wait till it falls off and crash and almost die or pay dealer pricing...tho being a mitsu i HIGLY doubt it...
