AC on a 04 Ralliart
Hi guys,
It finally happened. The A/C doesn't work properly even in local. The wind is not cold any more, just a little bit cooler than the environment. I think the compressor clutch rotates fine maybe. I can't tell any slippery. Last night, around 0 am, I noticed the cold end pipe of the Freon is cooler than the surroundings (It's about 60-65 during the midnight). Based on this, do you think my compressor is still working fine or not?
BTW, the thread in the following talked about a similar problem like what I had before. A/C is not cold when driving on highway or it's hot outside. He reached a guy who helped him adjust the tension on the compressor clutch. Then everything works well. Is there anyone have an idea about how to adjust this tension? Is it the work on clutch or the tensioner of the serp belt?

Thank you very much!

A/C Issues - Clogged?
Thank you very much!

Thank you very much!
i'm actually glad you posted a little bit on the AC. mine has never really been all that great during the summer so most of the time i just end up rolling windows down to keep cool
New findings! Is it normal that there is tiny hissing sound when the AC is on?
The sound is really not so obvious. When I sitting in the car, I can hardly hear it unless turning the radio off.
I didn't hear this sound before this time. It will be gone as soon as I turn the AC off.
Beyond this, two more findings:
1. When the car is idle, whenever I turn the AC on, the engine is going louder and the RPM indicator rises from about 650 to 900.
2. No matter how I play with the AC button and recirculate button, it looks like the clutch is always spinning. Since the compressor is located at the bottom side of the hood, I haven't get a chance to take the fender off and check whether the clutch can rotate freely manually with the engine is off. All the checks on clutch were conducted by a torch light.
Any advice? Thank you very much!

if it hisses with the heat on too, you need to change or re-seat your cabin air filter...
your findings:
1. that's normal, AC fan kicks on, idle RPM fluctuates...
2. if you have it on max AC (on the temp dial), AC and recirculation is always on...

It depends on my car. If I turn the knob to windshield, recirculation is always off. The point I mentioned it here is that my observation of all-time engaged clutch also considered the conditions w/ or w/o recirulation on, not only AC on or off.
i had this issue, changed out the compressor and now its fixed...
took about an hour...plus the evac/recharge...
i tried diagnosingit myself, found out the pressures in the system are ok, but when i revved to ~3krpm the pressure on the low side(if i remember correctly..), dropped down to zero, and if i went higher it went even lower(vacuum)...so i figured it must be the metering device being plugged up....and i found that (well more like guessed) its internal to the compressor...(couldnt find any info anywhere if there was a orifice or a thermal valve or where it was in the system...so i just bought a used compressor for like $100 and the guy gave me the condenser and most of the lines free w/ it(wasnt about to pay like $300 for a new one....)...put on the new compressor recharged the system and now the ac blows cold as ice...
my opinion: get a compressor installed and a system recharge...problem should be fixed

Hi guys,
The AC in my car is not so cool whenever the RPM is over 3500, in general. Even though I turn the knob to the coldest, I feel the wind is just a little bit cooler than the exterior temperature. Whenever the RPM drops below 3k, it's really chilly cold. Does anybody have any idea about it? What should I do? Thank you very much!!

it dosnt bother me any ways not having no AC, that's why there's windows
thats what i said for almost 2 yrs...and i was like OMG when i got it back....we had a long streak of hotter than hell days...and i just couldnt take it anymore...not to mention i had already bought the parts(compressor) almost a year before and it'd just been sitting around in my apt since i got it..so i finallly got to installing it and lemme tell ya...i still drive most often with my windows down ac of....but when it gets hotter than hell....its awesome to roll the windows up and let winter start at the push of a button...
