You dont need a torque wrench, if you really dont trust your judgement then get one of these
http://www.princessauto.com/pal/prod...Extension-Bars

I've never seen guys in a tyre shop using a torque wrench to tighten wheel nuts.
They just let the impact gun run its course.

I realise that some impact guns can be set at a desired torque, but whenever I have to take the nuts off after them I need to chant to Grey Skull first.

LMFAO @ your Grey Skull chanting

I usually rely on my judgement but then again I've never felt how hard 80ft/lbs - 90ft/lbs is so I have no idea how hard I should be yanking on these lugs. I guess if you need to chant to Grey Skull before taking your lugs off that means I should be tightening it as tight as possible while in Ranger Mode lol.

BTW, the link for that item says that it's not available for sale

I was actually planning on taking a trip to Princess Auto to see what they have.

I'll let you guys know what I find

Cheers!

No,no,no, not as tight as possible.
Just tight enough that they dont fall off.

tighten it too much and you might strip the threads on the lugnuts. its not as bad on the oem lugs but as soon as you get into aftermarket aluminum lugs you need to worry about this.

That's what I meant. I see people performing DIY rotations and they jump on the damn wrench to tighten the nuts I'm just thinking hmmm..."EPIC FAIL"

I kind of have a feel for it to know when it's tight enough. I also don't use the breaker bar to tighten the nuts so I'm sure it's not overtightened. It's a good tight snug but not RIP THREADS DESTROY RIMS WARP ROTOR tight

Yeah, I've got aftermarket spline lug nuts on right now. I can take pics of them when I get home. They look pretty nice on the OEM alloys

I had a local Canadian Tire ask my friend almost 1600 in repairs for a simple oil change.

They added things like a 180$ Steering fluid rotation, and a 160$ coolant pH adjustment.

I wouldn't rely too much on CT for anything, not even tires.

My .02$

you can't adjust the torque on the impacts...
you can adjust the ammount of power but it's not like it's a torque scale you adjust...it's either a "1 2 3" setting...or a "thin to fat" line...so there's no science to the adjustment...

also those "torque sticks" are also unreliable...more reliable than nothing...but i personally dont trust those either...they're only to give the illusion of accuracy...
you're only supposed to use them to snug up the lugnuts and then tighten with the torque wrench for REAL accuracy after

i hope those AM lugnuts have the flat washer seat on...them not cone or acorn seats...
you can damage the wheels and potentially have the lugnuts come off because they don't have the proper seat for the OE wheels...

they may look nice...but it's probably not very safe...
ps any store that sells tools should sell torque wrenches(specially stores with automotive tools sections)..
yes they're expensive compared to regular wrenches, but they're worth it if you're doing this like this in the driveway/parking lot...
think of they money uve saved so far doing this work yourself...
but think of the money ull need to fix the car when your wheels flies off...
just buy a torque wrench...

I always literally LMFAO when I read your posts. They're very straight to the point and they make sense. You don't beat around the bush

Ahahaha!

ROFLMAO...good...at least im doing something...

but it's true...
i'm a mechanic for a living(not that i can fix or do anything..but @least i know lots of people who can help and have been doing this for decades at least)so i have this happen all the time...
and i've seen people's wheels fly off, ive also attempted to fix the consequences...and ive been in a car when a wheel comes loose(not off tho...)

so i try to pass on info you as best as i can...
sometimes u have to just scare people with information...because they dont believe you...
and then if they leave with an issue you told them about...and it happens...they'll blame you, because you didin't dfix it (even tho they didn't want it done...)

jaguars(where i work) has the same kind of lugnuts as our RA's...(flat washer style)
and every now and then we get a guy saying "hey, my car makes a funny clunking noise...and...it feels funny too..."...
so we inspect it...and bam...wrong lugnuts...and loose wheel(s)...
then we try and sell them a set of lugnuts(~$23/ea)..and they're like "OH NO!!!...ill go to the auto store and buy some"....but they're still the wrong ones...and comeback again later...and then pay ~$50 for another set of wrong lugnuts AND a set of jag nuts(~$23/ea x20 = ~$460) and theyre not happy...
and then theyre even less happy when we tell them hey listen...your wheels...the seats are all damaged from having the wrong nuts on them and you SHOULD replace them...go a/m you wont klike our prices for OE wheels...BUT you just bought our ridiculously expensive lugnuts...
so basically that's the price of 1 OE wheel OR a set of A/M wheels...good luck, buh bye
