New 04 RA owner, question abt engine rpm
Hello everyone, just got my 04 RA two days ago and start to lean to drive a manual. I really love my RA although I still cannot drive it as smoothly as drive an automatic. Today, I try to drive it on free way. Then I find an issue or maybe nothing. I do not know. When I try to cruise at 40 mph and I change to 5th gear, the engine still keeps running at 2000 rpm. I just wonder if it is normal or not, because when driving an automatic, engine will run a little bit more than 1000 rpm when I cruise at 40 mph and it is a 2.0 liters engine. My RA is 2.4 liters. So I am confused. Could anyone give me some clue? Thank you all very much and hope you all have a wonderful day!

The gearing is different between cars so you can't really make a direct comparison to a different automatic car.
You're saying the rpm is EXACTLY the same at 40mph in 4th and 5th gear? If that's the case something's not right. If there's a small difference that's normal, 40mph isn't a very high speed so not abnormal for 4th gear pm to be somewhat close to 5th gear rpm.

Thank you very much for replying so quick. I just called a mechanic and he says that there may be something wrong with the clutch. I have no idea about it because I am still learning haha. But don't you think that 40 mph and a 2.4 liter engine keeps running 2000 rmp is a little wired? I don't know, just wondering.

we're not in canadia dude...haha

but still...i'm sure not many people drivin their RA is in 4th or 5th gear going those speeds(unless you're just cruising...and don't want any throttle respose)....i was always more like in 3rd at those speeds...(maybe that's why my gas mileage sucked so bad tho....lol)
it's Mph not Kmh...40mph is ~64kph...and 50mph is ~80kph

15km/h difference still won't make any difference between 4th and 5th
On the automatic transmission, gears are overly huge to compensate for the lack of a 5th gear.
Our gearbox isn't designed for fuel economy, it's more performance oriented. Enjoy it responsibly

WERR IN MER-KAH!!...SO WE DONT USE YOUR EUROPEAN MEASURING UNITS FROM CANADIA!!...lol
...if only other countries would accept and use our used-nowhere-else-in-the-world-and-confusing-to-everyone-but-americans measuring system(aka INTERNATIONAL system of units)...then we wouldn't have this dispute and everyone would know how long things are...and would make things NOT complicated, and make too much sense
we NEED to be 1 of 3 countries WORLDWIDE not using the metric system...because we dont like you...(yes cranswick...you specifically)...
haha jk...we like you

c'mon man....now you're taunting the US....
dont make me cry...
the funny thing is ive been trying to buy a new couch and it's aso annoying to try and figure out the measurement because of the stupid uneven-ness of the measurement(and the fact im not be sharpest rusted wooden spoon in the box when it comes to math)
