Engine Help

Hey People

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this (closest to 2001 ralliart i could see, and my first post to the site :S)

i have a 2001 cedia lancer ralliart wagon and just weighing up options atm cause my engine is broke :S
it has a 4g93 GDI turbo tiptronic in it now, im thinking of an engine and manual trans conversion that's not evo (cant afford atm).
i want something with a tiny bit more grunt, as ive previously had a 4g92 mivec which makes my current car seem not so great especially since its a wagon and carrying more things now a days for work.

A few people have suggested to me i should put in a 4g93T because it would apparently bolt straight in and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

if anyone has other better ideas or can help it would be awesome!

P.S im really sorry if i sound dumb and noob...its cause i really am

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Your current engine is a turbo charged 4G93 with GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection ? ) and you want to change to a different turbo charged 4G93, correct ?
Which one, the one from the baby evo ?
Without more information I cannot comment, why would the other 4G93 be better than what you had ?
I can only think of the 4G64 or 4G69 as alternatives but neither sounds better than a turbo charged 4G93 stock to me.
A 4G92 doesn't exactly ooze bottom end torque and you mentioned the car is used for work, so that would definitely be unsuitable, since torque is an engine's ability to do work.

Post up some more details is all I can say for now.

thanks for the reply

yeap at the moment it has a 4g93 GDI turbo
which the specs are as follows

4G93 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOHC 16 Valve GDI Turbo
  • Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) with turbocharger
  • Total Displacement - 1834cc
  • Bore - 81.0mm
  • Stroke - 89.0mm
  • Compression Ratio - 10.0:1
  • Maximum Output - 118 kW (160 PS; 158 bhp) @ 5,200 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rpm / 121 kW (165 PS; 162 bhp) @ 5,500 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rpm
  • Maximum Torque - 220 N·m (160 ft·lbf) @ 3,500 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rpm / 220 N·m (160 ft·lbf) @ 3,500 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rpm

It was suggested that i should put THIS engine into it if i wanted just a little more power and also since its a straight in/out conversion

4G93T http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOHC 16 Valve Turbo
  • Multi-Point Injection (MPI) with TD04 turbocharger
  • Total Displacement - 1834cc
  • Bore - 81.0mm
  • Stroke - 89.0mm
  • Compression Ratio - 9.1:1
  • Maximum Output - 158 kW (215 PS; 212 bhp)
  • Maximum Torque - 284 N·m (209 ft·lbf) @ 3,000 rpm

the car is my daily car, but i suggested work because i use it to travel to work and i often have stuff i buy from work in my car and forgotten about thus....end up carrying more things haha

Choice looks easy then, the MPI. Realise that extra bhp will come for a price at the gas station too.

Anyone else notice the output of the GDI mirrors the 4G69 but for a few hundred rpm ?

I would have done some pretty dirty things for a 4G93T GDI, when I still had my 2003 ES...also the lancer cedia ralliart front bumper and hood

power is nice and all, but as a daily, I would stick with the GDI.

Sorry to hijack this thread!

I had a 4g93 gdi before. I just swapped to a 4g93 forged lower block with a pnp 4g92 mivec head.

apparently now my oil temp goes between 104 when cruising and 117 (currently road tuned with mivec off).

My mivec is off because when the oil temp reaches 101, the mivec sounds like a motorboat. But below 101 its opens properly.

Oil pressure when idle is at 2.0 but had to set the idle rpm at 1350 to get that else it'll be 1.7 with the motul 15w50.

Anyone faced this issue before?

Ive been advised to:
1) put an oil cooler.
2) change the mivec solenoid and see if the mivec is rectified.
3) if 1 and 2 dont work, means theres issue with the rocker deck.

please help! Am desperate haha

is your oil pump failing? with oil that thick, I would think you should be seeing higher than normal pressure...

What would be the symptoms of a failing oil pump? and what sshould be the nornal pressure be like? Higher oil pressure is better right?

at idle it is normally 10-20psi at operating temperature, on a cold start it will be a fair bit higher...depending on temperature you may see 50+ psi... below I think 3-5psi your low oil light should come on...

Well it was 2.5bar oil pressure when i took it out from the garage. He used 20w50 castrol oil. After about 1k km run it, i changed to motul 15w50 and thats when the oil pressure at idle when down to 1.8bar. And when shifting gears it'll drop to 1.2 or lesser.

Oil temp also goes beyond 100 degrees celcius during idle and crusing it hits around 103.

Reall am lost at what to do now. Dont wanna spend too much too tho.

I dont have an oil cooler.

oh, 2.5 BAR...yeah that's fine...1 bar is like 14 psi...so it's fine

you could swap out the mivec actuator...and an oil cooler is never a bad idea...

the only time i've had problems with mivec, is when oil is low...

Thanks :-)

But i can't help but think that theres an underlying problem somewhere.

when it was on GDI 4g93t my oil temp never went pass 90+. Can't say much for the oil press as i was using an ultra gauge then lol.

i guess ill swap out the mivec solenoid and add an oil cooler and monitor!

If this doesn't working, my tuner mentioned that it could be an issues with the rocker deck.

What are your thoughts? And do you get such temp and oil readings too?

I don't have any problems with temperature, or oil pressure
