Radar Detector

PIGS, I got pulled over again last night in my Ralliart. I was wondering, does anybody have any suggestions for a radar detector? Do they work and which one is the best? PIGS

First off man, I know you're pissed, and I would be too...but it's way uncool to dis cops like that. I agree with you 100% that there are some major *******s out there, but there's also a lot of good ones too.

That aside, I just got a Whistler 1763 for my b-day. Installed it on Sunday, and it's been doing a good job of picking up their signals. I'm digging it so far.

reasons not to get a radar detector:
1) Laser radar...well it's used here lots anyways
2) If you simply go the speed limit there's no problem, hehe

I use a whistler forget what model it is, but it does a good job of picking up laser from up to 5km's away.

I have my trusty 'ol Bel thats about 6 years old. Still works reasonably well. I think the real trick to Radar Detectors is to not become overly dependent on them. Memorize their speed trap areas. Also memorize all local law enforcement headlight arrays. Basically, figure out how the police operate and avoid them. Man, I could write a book on this stuff, seriously. I drive fast as hell and haven't been pulled over for speeding in 4 years.

That being said, in Japan they have radar detectors that actually detect COPS based on GPS transponder signals. They own. I drive a '99 SIR red prelude in Japan that was equiped with one.

i brought a portable police scanner called beartracker and all it does is scan the police frequency, if it detects it within 5 km, it will slowly beep louder as it gets closer.. you can also hear them if they talk..

works fine.. much better than a detector.. since cops always talk on the radio or receive messages

There are three tiers of detectors:
V1
Escort
Everything else

There are also 3 tiers of pricing, see above. You just have to decide where you want to spend your money, in that list or in court.

Second the motion that you shouldn't be disrespectful to the police for doing their job if it's your own actions that precipitated it.

Valentine1 is the only choice. Ive had an escort, whistler and a passport before.....no contest. This may have been my best investment yet. Its saved my ars a handful of times already! GET IT!!

I just got my first ticket, and now I'm looking into radar detectors as well. The only problem is I happen to drive in two of the few places where they're illegal, DC & VA. I live in MD and they're legal here, but I doubt Virginia or DC would care about that if they caught me with one.
