Installing Brass Shifter Bushings
Tools Required:
12mm socket wrench
Phillips screw driver
Regular screw driver
Needle nose pliers
Step 1.
Buy bushings here.
Step 2.
Remove Center Console
Step 3.
Remove 4 12mm bolts. The bolt in the upper left requires unhooking the shifter cable on the left side. Just remove the clip and pull the cable out of the way for bolt access. Remove the 4 rubber bushings from the shifter base. It is easier if you push the metal inserts out from the top with a screwdriver.
Step 4.
There are 8 brass pieces with the shifter kit. They have a shoulder on them. Place 2 of these up front and 2 at the rear under the shifter base with the shoulder side up as shown in the picture below. Don't worry about exact placement yet. With the shifter base resting on top of the bushings, slide them in to place with your fingers. Be sure the shoulder seats in the shifter base. (See picture in step 5)
Step 5.
Put the next 4 bushings on top of those with the shoulder side down. Make sure they are fully seated in the shoulder groove. Slide the base over the mounting holes and re-install the 12mm bolts.
Step 6.
Reinstall the shifter cable and retaining clip. This is what it should look like when you are finished.
Step 7.
Reinstall the center console, refer to Step 2 link.
Enjoy your crisper shifting, this mod makes a big difference in shifter feel.
