Importance of 15,000 mile service?

How important is it to take the car in for 15,000 mile service? It looks like all they do is inspect some fluids, and then replace the air filter/spark plugs.

Is this a necessary maintenance visit? I am going to do the 30 K, just not sure if I should bother with the 15.

I intend to find out how much of the scheduled maintenance I can do, and how much of it I have to have the dealer do, when I go in for my free oil change at 7500 miles.

Off topic, but kinda related: Did anyone actually wait until 7500 miles to change the oil for the first time? I sure as hell didn't.

no way. I changed mine at 1000, then every 3000 after that!
