How-To: Front lower ball joint replacement
So, i had to replace mine, and i figured i'd make a little video for you all...this method works for all mitsubishi lancers from 02-07 with macpherson type strut assemblies.
the easier way: remove entire control arm, and press out the joint with a hydraulic press.
the next easiest way: rent or buy a ball joint press kit
my way: in a pinch with some good ideas and will to succeed, you too can replace ball joints in your driveway with the arm still on the car.
parts used...MOOG part number K80373
tools used (other than wreches and sockets required to remove all the bolts):
32oz ball-peen hammer
3/4" cold chisel
snap ring pliers
scissor jack and a stack of wood
outer race of old wheel bearing
inner race of wheel bearing
patience
removal/installation service points (sorry i couldn't record myself actually doing it):
1. make sure the arm is well supported, to avoid bending or damaging the arm (you need to smack it pretty hard, a lot of times, depending on your hammer)
2. When installing the new joint you don't need to support the arm, you want to support the bottom of the joint and tap the arm all around the joint ensuring the joint presses in straight.
3. when installing the snap ring/circlip/c-clip whatever you want to call it, i had to hold the ring level with my free hand, while spreading it with snap ring pliers (sounds easier than it is, i had a heck of a time getting the ring to spread without it popping off.

kind of bringin this back form the dead...
great job replacing the balljoint and good...uhh...video-up..?
technically it's a video so not a writeup..lol..(even tho a basic writeup is included)
anwyay...if it were me...i'd go ahead and do the whole arm...because the 2 bushigns are probably bad by the time that balljoint goes out too...and if they're not...at least they have quite a bit of wear on them...
or i suppose you can find some replacement bushings and install those at the same time i guess...
