Thumbs up The End-All Wheel Thread (FAQ?)

Ok, it seems like 1/2 the posts on here are wheel questions, and alot are redundant. I'll try to ask and answer them all right here. I will need your help guys, so please chime in and corret me or made additions =) I'll edit the top post ot keep it up-to-date

Q) Whats the size of our stock wheels/tires?
A) The stock wheel is either a 16x7 or 16"x6" /w a 46 offset. I believe they weight a bit under 25lbs. The stock tires are 205/50/16. The bolt pattern is 5x114.3

Q) With the stock suspension, what is the largest wheel I can fit in my car?
A) You can fit a 18x7.5. The largest tire for this wheel that wont rub is a 215/35/18. However, with a 215 tire, you are better off going with a 18x7. Otherwise, the tire is barely goig to cover the rim. You should also go with a 42 offset for this.

Q) Why do I want bigger wheels?
A) You dont unless you are a rapper or something. They look good but they decrease performance. While a 16" wheel and an 18" wheel of the same weight will have a small difference at best, most 16" wheels are lighter. IE: 16x7 ROTA SubZero wheel only weights 14.5lbs. The 18" weights 19lbs. But if you want to look good, getting a new set of heavy 18's with good tires will still be a setup up, as our stock tires pretty much suck.

Q) How can I get a better contact patch? 215 is kinda thin and i cant launch for crap!
A) I agree! The best thing to do would be to get your fenders rolled. There are 2 ways of doing this: The poor mans way, and the right way =) The poor mans way involves taking your old louisville slugger /w a towel around it and essentially bend the fender edge to make more clearance. If done slowly and carefully, this can turn out just fine. However, it may cause the paint to crack. The right way is to head up the fender with a head gun and carefully bend the fender out. Alternativly, you can just wait unti a wide-fender kit is for sale and throw those bad boys on there. Best-case, you may be able to fit a 7.5 wide wheel with a 235wide tire on.

keep 'em comming =)

You will have to test fit when you have a lowered car. I plan on getting height adjustable coilovers after I get wheel and tires this summer. Tein Basics.

I was just reading how with a 215 u couldnt get much grip.. 215 is not the biggest 18 u can fit on the frunt tires... The frunt wheel wells are larger than the rear. I found I can fit 225-40-18's on the frunt.. BUT.. They will not fit on the rear. So If u really needed to u could use a wider tire on the frunt for more traction. In the pictures of my car I have this set up and its hard to even tell that my frunt tires are larger. becuse going from 40 to 35 is such a lil differance. I have 4 215-35-18's I use every day and for scca events and 2 225-40-18's that I use on the frunt when I drag race. seems to work out nice... I'm sure If I ever get more serious about drag racing I'll get some 10lb 15"s with some hoosier slicks but for the lil street racing I do just having a spare set of frunt tires dose the trick. btw if u get some BF GW G-Force tires u will never have a problem with traction again!

good thread majik

here's one: if i get a 17x7.5 rim, what size tire could i put on it without rub AND what offset should the rim be?

currently i'm running 17x7 with 205/40/17. i'd like to get a bit wider with the rim, but i defintely don't wanna have rub. i had that on my civic and it sucks big time.
thanks for the help eh.
