4 lug to 5 lug swap!

I would like to swap my sh!tty 4-lug wheels to 5-lug. I have a 2004 sportback ES, NOT the ralliart version.

I posted in another forum and the response was given that I can't change hubs because the suspension is different.

I am looking for a different view on this. I would assume the diameter of the axel is the same in both to keep production cost down.

Please help.

you will have to change out the whole hub assembly, if I'm not mistaken. everything mounts in the same spots, but you have a lot of different parts attached to those spots. You should try and get a shop manual. I will check it out in more detail when I get home, but someone else usually beats me to it

It can be done. I've got all the part laying around after my rear disc conversion. I'm just reluctant to switch to 5-lug because I don't want to shop for new rims.

The front spindles are the same. Just switch the hub assemblies and your good. Then you just need the RA front rotors and calipers (because the rotor size is bigger on the RA).

In the rear is gonna be much trickier because you will in effect have to convert to rear disc to utilize the 5-lug. Or you will have to source a rear drum that is 5-lug and will fit. And if you convert to rear disc you will need more parts than just the hub assemblies.

Yeah, the front should be really easy to do, as our front suspensions are nearly identical. As mentioned, though, it's expensive due to all the brake parts you need.

I think your better option would be to stick with 4 lug (plenty of wheel selections thanks to Hondas ) and go with a brake upgrade.
