Update:

" Been busy. I tore down the diff and took the gears off to the machine shop. I am waiting for them to be machined. I took him 20 sets of gears. I have a ton of orders right now. As soon as I have more news, I'll get back to you."

Anybody else interested?

"Before I go any further I want to make sure I have the correct differential housing. I have attached two pictures please confirm with someone on the forums that this is the correct differential for your transmission. It is what my parts store ordered for me with the numbers that you gave me, but I wanna be a hundred percent sure."

Gary, I can't reply to texts from the USA anymore, it costs a lot of money...

this looks like the diff for the manual transmission...may or may not work with the auto...

The first thing I noticed is the possible difference in mounting holes, 8 vs. 10?

Which drawing/picture you looking at?

The top drawing is for the AT 2WD...the bottom is for the 4WD.

should be F4A4B, the service manual shows 8 bolts for the torqueing order, but shows 10 in a disassembly drawing, I'm pretty sure it should be 8 bolts, the manual is 8 bolts, and if you google image search MR983328, it shows an 8 bolt diff carrier with not speedometer drive gear...the auto diff should not have the speedometer sensor drive, but it should not matter, the bolt pattern definitely matters...

Garrett, can any of the guys/gals over on the Eclipse side benefit from this...if so, can you have them express an interest over here on this poll?

the auto 4g GS has the same part number if i remember correctly...so they would definately benefit, problem is finding guys willing to disassemble their transmission to install it. The manual is pretty simple, can't say the same for the auto, but i'm sure it's not that bad. But you need a decent collection of tools, and the confidence to do it.

I drove a clutch type diff in my car (Kaaz) for a few years. It was not the most pleasant thing to drive. It improved handling a lot.

When I sold that car and in every other of the cars I've installed an LSD in I've gone exclusively to a torsen type LSD. They handle just as well without all the problems of going around tight corners - ie pulling into parking spots. You have to decide for yourself if you want to live with something that makes you grit your teeth every time you drive it.

Hey Mike, Jeff of Engineered Performance, doesn't come into forums for the same reasons you don't, so I copy and paste responses from here and forward them via text messages, and this was his reply:

"You will never know mine is in there, trust me. I have had one in three of my daily drivers for the last 10 years. The only one that was a pita was a manual steering Grand Am ( I removed the power steering to make room for a bigger turbo). In a power steering car you will never know its in there, until you go to take off and instead of one tire spinning both tires grip!"

"I am not a big fan of these sorts of lsds I have seen so many cause problems. I really think that the key would be to find a similar honda unit and see what you would need to do to get the mitsubishi splines in there" - hackish
