Canadian pricing?
I predict that gas will keep rising from here on out. Then again, everyone's always got their own theories. I suppose where we differ is how much of an inconvenience this whole proposition is. Personally, I don't think it's that much of a hassle. Having paid approx. $20K for my '06 RA, I would, no doubt, have spent the extra $10K and got a used Evo VIII or Evo IX had the bumper laws changed last year. Sure maintenance and running costs are a whole other story. The RA is arguably one of the more expensive cars to maintain in it's class. But then again, I was never into dull, boring cars anyway. Otherwise I would have got a corolla
The premium on an Evo X (or any other Lancer) is almost exactly 20%, which means that you save about $10k by importing a loaded Evo X MR. That means it's still more expensive than a loaded Ralliart bought in Canada, and that doesn't even account for the expense and extreme inconvenience of importing your own car.
Personally, I just want a premium Ralliart, not an Evo X MR, and the price difference isn't enough to justify the enormous waste of my time. Also remember that you'll be paying a lot more to keep an Evo X running, unless you foolishly expect gas to get cheaper

I absolutely agree that the price of gas shouldn't be a big factor here, but only a fool wouldn't take it into account at all... if you fill up the tank every week, then premium will run you about $150 extra a year, which isn't a lot, but it's something to consider. Then again, you can save far more than that on fuel by just buying a much cheaper Lancer GTS instead, so I agree with you that fuel definitely isn't a big concern for anyone sane buying a 2009 Lancer Ralliart.
I personally would not put regular gas in a turbo car. I don't know how them JDM turbos work but I would imagine it's the same story - reg. gas is not the way to go if you have a turbo.
Absolutely -- anything over MSRP is always a rip-off. If there's nothing at MSRP in your own market, look at smaller markets nearby and you're sure to find a dealer who will sell you the car you want for MSRP or less. MSRP includes plenty of profit margin for dealers, and dealers slippery enough to want more than that are best avoided, because they probably have plenty of other borderline-fraudulent tactics up their sleeves.
