Why is this thing so expensive?
^^^ Wait a minute. The new GENESIS is going with Mitsu motor in the rear drive platform? I think I am going to wait a while before buying anything. There are some interesting products coming out. The Genesis should be very competitive in price, i am guessing low to mid 20's.

I don't understand why that is a problem. That is exactly the point I am trying to make. Most people (especially those with money to blow) do not buy cars based on what the car has to offer. They fail to do the research and spend the dollars on the badge of the car alone. If you see it on MTV Cribs then it must be good, right? Hyundai may not have the reputation of lets say BMW or Mercedes, but dollar for dollar you get way more of a car than you would in a BMW (the Genesis being a very good example). And I do think that the base 1 or 3 series are very close of a comparison to what you get from a Sonata at a fraction of the price. The 1 or 3 series has absolutely nothing to offer besides the badge of a BMW.
Point being again, the RA is well worth the money. I just saw an add in our local paper that they are trying to sell the 09 Matrix (yes the Matrix) for $24,000. $2,000 less than the RA. Which would you rather have?

Which would I rather have, or which is the smarter purchase. I would rather have the RA. The Matrix is more practical, better MPG and WAY BETTER resale. That $2k savings up front will amount to 8k on the back end when you trade.
I bought a new Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with TRD 4x4 in 2001 for 24k. Sold it in 2006 for 15k. No way to sell a 5 year old MITSU with over 60% VALUE LEFT.
Hell, I just bought a 91 Honda Accord 5 speed with 80k for about 3k. That is insane but the car was mint and I am going to use it as a filler car until I can decide what I am getting once the economy calms down.
It is supposed to be the most affordable 300 hp car on the market (The Genesis Coupe). And the price tag is supposed to be under $30,000. Saw it at the auto show and it looked pretty nice. I am going to take a guess and say it will be probably $29,000 for the base model though.
I will be in Detroit for the NAIAS on the 20th so I will be checking it out.

I thought it was going to compete with Camaro and Mustang. If so, it will need to be cheaper than that.

It is supposed to compete with the camaro, and mustang. However, given the cost of the tiburon with some options, it leads me to believe that it will have to be somewhere in the mid to low 20s for the 4 cylinder (which is supposed to be the 4b11t block with different rotating assembly and head from what I read). With the announcement of the v6 (over 300hp) camaro being somewhere around $22-23k, it might just make it a tough sell for hyundai. Since it's (camaro) roughly based on the G8 with sportier suspension settings, I could only imagine (since i've driven a G8 GT quite a bit) that it will drive and handle pretty damn good, which unsurprisingly is what lot of reviewers have said. Prior to that, the hyundai was going to be a bargain, but it'll have some tough company when it comes out.

MSRPs haven't been finalized, but expect a spread of about $8000 between a base Genesis 2.0t and a fully loaded Genesis 3.8. If the base coupe comes in at or just below $20,000, that means in spring 2009, there'll be a six-speed, 300-horse rear-drive coupe on sale in America for right around $25,000. A spokesman for the company claims Hyundai is committed to selling the lowest-priced, 300-horse, rear-drive car in the U.S.

They do age well in the hands of people that treat them right and can afford to maintain them properly... They are designed to last a life time if serviced as recommended... 50K is when BMWs need some money spent on them so they can go to 100k and beyond with no issues ... many folks skip or go cheap on that first service and that is where issues start.. The i6 in my car has 135K but runs smooth as butter with only tune ups and oil changes it has no leaks and i keep all rubber and hoses up to date .. why is that? its never abused .. abuse kills good cars fast.
People with money have options and look for brand image which is why the Genesis will not lure anyone considering a BMW, MB, Audi, etc. into their showroom. They may lure a few prospective Acura, Lexus, or Inifinity buyers but I don't think that the German brands have anything to fear.
