I've been really into this car, but after comparing the ralliart to other cars, I've been quite disappointed. Seems like every other company besides Mitsubishi is offering great deals.

brand new car, brand new model. Give it a year, then you will see discounts. I don't think Mitsu is having a hard time moving these. But hell, this is the end of year...most dealers give great deals...key is you have to haggle. The best car deals aren't going to be in ads online or in newspapers, its going to be at the counter, with you and the sales person... Very least you could do is email them offers on one if your serious...because no deal is going to come knocking at your door

The price gap of the new ralliart is not that big when you compare it to the X GSR. You are getting much more performance for the money if you just get a base model X gsr compared to getting a ralliart. My advice is to just give some time and save some more money and just get a base version X GSR. You're going to get a much better car in choosing the Evo X.

I'ved always admired the EVO/STI ever since my college years. So this Ralliart has a special place in my heart. But looking at other cars at around the same price range (BMW 1 series, Honda Accord, RX8), I'm having alot of trouble deciding. Dealers have refused to haggle much.

Well, coming to a decision will be a bit difficult when you're looking at such a broad range of options. If you live anywhere where it snows a decent amount, then the benefit of AWD is a no-brainer. If I lived in FL again, the RX8 might have been my personal choice, but a 128 wouldn't bee to shabby. Though the 135 would be ideal - it's a bit pricey. The accord, while it's pretty nice is just too mundane compared to the other cars you mentioned. My personal list would be something like this (in no particular order):

Nissan Z
BMW 1 series
Mazda RX8
VW GTI
ralliart
wrx
Pontiac G8 GT (If you're ok with a slush box)
Up and coming Camero (V6 or V8 - neither a bad choice)
toyota prius (just kidding)
Hmmmmm.... what am I forgetting?

But since I live in Michigan, it really boils down to a WRX and R/A.. I personally like the goodies that come on the R/A, including, but not limited to the front and rear LSDs - That's always a good basis to start with.

If I were to add used cars to the list, it would be MUCH longer.

SST transmission, Recaro seats, ACD, they all add up. You're basically getting an Evo VIII/IX with an SST padel shift tranny.

I doubt it that any of the other compeditors has the same tranny. The price is a bit much, but you are getting some thing more.

I paid 27K for a brand new evo 8 in 2005. No way I'm spending that on a ralliart

the R/A appeals to me for one reason... DDing it has the slap shift "automatic" so the wifey can use it but it would still run pretty good stop light to stop light. having the SST is a bonus. you cant really compare the R/A and the Evo 2 different cars with different purposes. if i had to make the choice i'll probably go for the X only if i didnt have my 9 but since i do i would stick with the R/A in my case it would make a fun DD and its something that the wife can drive as well.

cali2MDevo8 - you cant really compare prices of the cars from 2005 to now. prices have gone up. a corolla from 2005 was probably cheaper than a 2009 corolla is now.

what were the specs on your car back when you bought it? hp/tq, etc
and you have to take account of the SST.

It is a bit heavier than the VIII/IX and has a slower steering box, but on the other hand it has a stiffer chassis and the 4B11 seems to take well to mods.

Yeah, while this car is "expensive," I would not call it expensive for what you get. Especially since the options for AWD cars is limited in this price range. My other car of interest was the Suzuki SX4 Crossover, but the dealer here would not budge from MSRP (not to mention it isn't even close to this car in performance). So I think overall, the Ralliart is a pretty good deal overall.

Other than the SST and the AWD the new Mazda 6 has better performance, better MPG and is way cheaper and has more room. Not as sporty for sure. But 27-30 is not cheap and that is a very competitive price point for other makes.

But a 09 RA is better than a 05 Evo so you can't really compare..

This car is not expensive for what you get.
