Replace Wheel or Tire first?

So income tax should be coming back soon, so I was wondering if I can get any of your input regarding should I buy a new set of Rims first then get tires? What would you guys get first... rims or tire ... and if anyone know where to buy some rims, i just want some for looks, I'm looking to spend around 800 or so... anyone know ? Is that too cheap or should I invest more?

I assume that you're going to buy 18" rims, then.

I personally would rather get good tires for the performance benefit first. Good rims can also add a performance component to the suspension tune, but not as much as a good set of rubbers.

My vote: Tires first

What type of tires and where can I get them? Please, advise me where to get them! I need some really sticky tires, when it comes to tires and wheels I'm soo confused... I have no idea how to shop for them, does it mean when I buy my tires, when I get new rims I won't be able to use the new tires?

If you buy 215 or 225 width tires for the stock wheels, then you could still use them on 7.5" wheels that you might buy later (215's on 8" wheels is a bit of a stretch, 225's would be fine for that too). So no, you should be able to use the same tires with new rims.

For what it's worth, the tires will probably wear out enough (before you get new rims) that you'll want new tires to go with new rims.

As soon as I got my Ralliart i swapped out the tires to winters, and im trying to sell the stock tires, the winters that i have are 225/40r18, and they fit fine, and i already have my new set of rims with summer tires from my old car, but yeah the stock tires are crap , google those tires and see the ratings, and they rate it poor.., but tirerack.com seems to have good deals on tire and rim packages, but for sure if you dont have the money, get new rubber first

Pocket the money and save it for when you can afford both rims and tires.

" When you said 8" what measurement is that.. typically how is tire measured can someone please teach me... so yesterday I learned the 225/45/18 numbers... the first set is how wide it is, the 2nd number is how thick it is, and of course the last number is the wheel size...so when you said 7.5" and 8" what is that reflecting ?

How much for a set of wheels and tires.. I'm not looking to go crazy on performance..just some nice looking ones with decent performance and some grippy STICKY tires! i already did a 360 in my car and did some minor dmg to the car so I definitely need extremely sticky tires..

Yes -- the stock wheels are 18x7 (18" diameter, 7" width). Some of the other wheel sizes that might make sense as replacements include: 18x7.5, 18x8, 17.5x7.5, 17.5x8, 19x8, etc. You'd only want to go to 17" wheels if the tires you want to buy require that (not very likely, aside from snow tires).

Other things to worry about: bolt holes (number/spacing), offset, bore diameter, weight, etc. Find someone who knows wheels, or buy online from a website that considers fit for the vehicle (you can pretend to be driving a 2008 Lancer GTS, which seems to have exactly the same wheel dimensions).

Good Luck selling those tires...IMHO they are most likely to sell close to summer. What have u priced them as?

I do pretty much all my tire business through tire rack. Use the above link to help you decide, since you don't know what you're looking for. I can try to help, as well.

Summer only tires or all season?
How long do you want them to last?
Street driving only, or do you autocross?
How important is ride comfort and tire noise?

tires and rims are very intruiging, but without springs or coilovers, it will only make the wheel gap look worse

Why would you use a 17.5" wheel? Do they even make those anymore?
Anyways, buy tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, tires, and tires. That's how important tires are. New wheels can help shed weight or allow you to run a wider tire but nothing will increase your performance as much as good rubber.

I bought a new set of wheels and tires for winter. $450 for the wheels $400 for the tires. Rota Torques.

In the summer I will go with another set of rims and tires.

I will put the tires I have on my rims now on the stock wheels to use as my winters.

It's your money, only you know what you can afford and justify its value.
