Read my post. This has never happened to me. Boards such as this give the impression that something happens to everyone, because people without problems don't bother to post. What's really disturbing is that you extrapolated everyone on this one post board (except me) to everyone

I believe it's actually a 08/09 Lancer issue. I know my 08 Lancer GTS had the same problem about a year after I purchased it. Only happened during cold mornings, may be significant or not.

It hasn't happened to my 09 RA, yet. *Knock on wood*

I now have over 9000km on my RA and it's failed to start 2 times on a first try that required longer than usual cranking. Only One time it required several repeated crank/cooldown attempts to start. I've owned 4 brand new cars over the past few years and never expirenced this with any of them. All you naysayers on this post can't deny how many owners are having a problem like this. What gives? anyone been to dealer yet?

I'm glad you have had no problems, Thats the way new car ownership should be.
Forums are a place to discuss not only the great stuff about your car but also some of the issues someone might be having too, maybe someone has a solution to a particular problem that someone else might have.

Try not to take it personally, theres enough people who DON'T own one of these cars who like to point out its faults, real or imagined.

Hey man.... You misunderstood. My comment with regards to being disturbed was clearly towards the " issues and concept " of the fact that there has been MANY posts with this very same problem. I am actually really happy to hear that you have not had any problems, in fact we may be able to learn a few things from why you and only you have not had this problem even once. Do most of the N American cars have an issue to be looked at closer? should there be a TBA from that can correct this. Could it be a battery issue? I don't know, but these boards are for that reason, and that reason only. When I see multuple, multiple posts about starting trouble with a car that had less than 3,000 miles then its a concern. Lets face it we both live in a very cold climate, albiet your winters are much harsher than T.O, the point is that your -25c ( -35 / windchill) and my -20c ( -28/windchill) ( on certian days) are WAY colder than than the average RA owner......so if you'v had no problems and I myself have had only one, thats makes it as bit interesting ( pretty sure my battery has been at full power for the 4 months of a colder than usual winter so far)

What I find " disturbing" ...is that my wife will be driving this car with my baby girl. I do not want to hear of this happening to her at 7:00 at night on a cold evening with a child in the back. She's gonna crank this thing and if it does not start she " may be stranded" Its a concern that any parent will have, that was my reference to the comment.

Remember, this had only happend to me once and lets hope its was just that, once. If it happens again you can be sure you will hear it on this post and I will make an issue out of it with the dealer. Other than that I love the car and I have had no other issues So enjoy the car and sorry if you took it the wrong way.

Cheers

I don't ever have problems with my car starting up anymore, however, I know that the engine is hesitating to start on luke-warm starts (not hot, not cold, but like, after a few hours of sitting). It can be 10 below, and it'll start on the first crank. But randomly, after sitting a few hours, it'll take sometimes 5-6 cranks before it officially starts up, and even then it might hesitate in that area between turning over, and started, for a split second too long, IMO.

I've also heard there's already a TSB for it, but I'm too lazy to take the car to the dealership. I've had it almost a year, and I had two occasions where it wouldn't start. I was patient, waited, and it started right up.

Funny thing. Just read this post yesterday as I was curious and then today my 09 Lancer RA would not start on first try. Had to crank it about 4 times before it finally kicked in. I would say that it was the weather, but actually the temp in the car said 60 degrees (this is in Chicago by the way). Car has 900 miles on it. I wonder if this eventually be some kind of a recall on it.
If it happens again, I'm off to the dealer to check it out.

it really depends on the weather, when I start my car next day, it sounds quite different even it starts only one time. at least it happens to me everyday. i gonna bring my car to dealer this thursday.
but after the first start, it starts quite well any time during the day.

Had this happen to my RA last night. It was 53F here, and I had let it sit for about 3hours in the driveway. Went out to go pick up my girl, and it didn't start . I let it sit for a minute or so, and tried again and it started right up. Minor thing, but worth mentioning I'd say.
