Oil Changed.....

Well I finally changed the oil after hitting 1000 miles. After reviewing our tread that we all provided and decided to go with 1000 miles. So, I went to the dealer to have it changed since I have the so called "VIP" treatment. They told me that I was to use 0W30 for my car and I was little puzzled. Is this right or what? I have normally used 5W30 in my other cars. Is this 0W30 have a specific reason using so as opposed to being a turbo'ed motor? In my old Mustang, I used the 10W40 since it had twin turbos on them. So any info would be appreciated!!!

Thats really thin oil, i would just check you manual to see if it is allowed given your temperature conditions where ever you live. Your VIP service might pay off for a free oil change.

0w, 5w,10w,15w,20w. keep in mind that the W means weather so the lower the number the better it will work under cold conditions.

now the last two numbers is what counts a 30 oil is a 30 oil it doesnt matter if its a 0w30 or a 10w30,,, 30 is 30.

Wow that was quick response!! Well, it is still a little "cold" up here in MA but it will eventually be getting warming in the meantime. As far as the VIP treatment, it was up to $25 bucks then pay the difference which I find it hilarious. I still paid a whopping $55 for it and wasn't happy with it. I will be doing the next oil change myself since I have to buy all the new stuff again cuz my old stuff (oil drain pan and few other things) is gone and wasn't any good anyways. I am more likely going to buy the Amsoil since I have always had it in my Mustang and loved it so much!! But it is gonna cost me a good $110 for a case of it though .

Ok cool man!!! I will let you know when I am ready to buy some of these stuff. I have 5000 miles to go before I change the oil again. Unless you recommend in a different way?

0w30 is only thinner than 5w30 (or 10w30) at ordinary temperatures (i.e. starting) -- it's almost exactly the same viscosity at engine running temps. You probably wouldn't want to start your car a lot in 20+ degC (70+ degF) weather with 0w30, but it's unlikely to be a significant issue. Mitsubishi says 0w30 is perfectly fine up to 10 degC (50 degF), which is fairly warm for 0w30, so my guess is that it's probably fine at any temp in the Ralliart.

The Ralliart starts perfectly fine down to -20 degC (0 degF) with 5w30, and it will start a fair bit colder than that with 5w30 (if you don't mind a less even start). Can't imagine that anyone would really need 0w30 in Massachusetts, unless they planned to do a lot of driving up north in Maine and Canada (or out in Minnesota or the Dakotas).
