question about wiring aftermarket sub

Hey .... So i didnt get the sound package with my RA.. i have 4 10" subs sitting here and an amp so i was thinking.. why not toss one or 2 of my 10s in my RA.. but i dont want to swap out the Stock HU.. I like it too much.. Anyone know or have wiring diagram for the ra stereo.. i know i saw a thread on here about if you had the sound package using an amp with high inputs. (mine does not have that.. ) or splicing into the back door speaker wires and running RCA's.. that sounds too much like a hack job..

Help.

Oh FYI ive done alot of installs.. so i know what im doing.. just dont want to hack it up if i dont have to

I would not suggest splicing speaker level into RCA. That is way too much signal for a low level input. I have done instalation professionally for the last 8 years and can tell you from experience that should really go ahead and change the head unit if you want any hope of a great sounding system. But if you can't part with it, then a unit like the JL Audio Clean Sweep would be a good way to go to clean up the signal before running it into an aftermarket amplifier. Virtually all modern audio systems have built in equalization that is best suited to the factory speakers. If you change them out, or add to them, the EQ is way off. High level would be an option, but you said your amp does not have this input. Make the right choice and swap the head unit.

Theres a kit that would help you splice it without it being so much of a hack job, which you could pick up at a car audio store.

But IMO the head unit is garbage( like most other factory headunits) unless you got the rockford. I replaced mine with an eclipse nav and the sound is wayyyyyyyyyy much better.

Awesome I've been considering an eclipse nav system. How do you like it and which dash kit did you use to fit it in? I know scoche and metra have a kit and heard each has their pros and cons. Anyway it would be nice to get an actual owners opinion. Thanks.

Sorry didn't mean to HJ but I think going aftermarket HU is the best way to go. once you add a sub you're gonna want to upgrade speakers and run another amp. The best way to do that is with an aftermarket HU. Just my 2 cents.

I love the thing. However if you need a pretty map to look at you probably won't like it. It does what it's supposed to do by all means though. The sound from it is awesome though, couldn't be happier.

I used the scosche(however you spell it) kit. There's a tiny gap at the top, but other than that it fits and looks good. I'll post some pics later if u want.

Just curious as to how you guys switched your head units. Did you lose the functionality of the steering wheel functions? I would love to but just seemed like more of a hassle then it was worth. I have my stereo from my old RSX just sitting there, waiting to get installed into the stock head unit but i prefer a new one.

Yeah there's a lot of mixed opinions on which kit is better on the online reviews. Pics would be awesome thanks.

It is possible to retain the function of the steering wheel controls when changing the head unit. Most current aftermarket head units have the ability to connect with the steering wheel controls with the use of an adapter offered by various manufacturers. Just check with your local audio shop. They should be able to help you out.

You can use a PAC for the brand of the head unit for steering wheel controls. Can easily get these from crutchfield, however the blue tooth will be lost. Most of the headunits will have blue tooth built in anyways.

PS- sorry for the delays in pics ill get some up in the next few hours.
