Hard Starts

Hey Guys,

Had my RA sent in yesterday complaing of difficult start up conditions. ( its occured about 4 times in the 5 months that i have had it)

Got it back today and the mechaninc said that they had a TSB for the RA. So....its been flashed by the dealer for the very first time. What is this supposed to do? He says that it has amongst other things leaned out the fuel mix. ratio. It should help with a bit better mileage and power. As for power, I cannot really notice anything but for mileage...I will have to wait till I finish the tank.

He also mentioned that the RA has been experiencing problems with people that take the car out for short trips without letting the car warm up to FULL operating tempratures.....its supposed to aggrivate the hard start situation. ( personally I have done this a few times ... I am sure every one does this now again) Lets just hope the flash has fixed this issue.

On a side note: I am wondering if getting my ECU flashed for performance reasons will not be an issue with ......seeing that the dealer has flashed me for the first time.....I doubt it...but.....just thinking aloud.

How much/long do you have to crank the starter to get it to fire up?

Have you noticed any difference from the previous few weeks when the temp was milder compared to a month or two ago when it was much colder?

My RA is a week old and theres been a few times where it didn't fire up when I cranked it very lightly...started no problem when I cranked it for like a second.

We are talking cranking it for up to 4-6 seconds and nothing. In fact it does not fire up at all until I do what I learnt on this forum .......and that is depress gas pedal down for a full second release and then fire up again. As far as temps go it occured at -10,-5, 0 and + 6 degrees.

Its was just embrassing for a new car to have as many start up issues as mine, so I made an issue out of it with the dealer. It looks like it has paid of but I wil have to wait and see. Hopefully you will not have as many issues as me, but keep an eye out and see if it gets worse. Do'nt get me wrong I love the car and its everything I wanted in a car but I get pretty picky when it comes to proper operating issues for my new car.

hey guys, i am taking my R/A into service today for this reason, started hard 4x now. I have heated garage, 2x in the garage at 60deg.
2x more when it was really damp, pouring rain out.

Also, my R/A has had 3 service engine lights in the past 2 weeks, and every time that has happened, at stoplights, the car would idle between 1500 and 1800 RPM and the tranny starts shifting VERY hard, and when decelerating, it would act like its in sport mode.... very weird.

I'm across town in Markham...judging by the Dixie Mitsu phone number on your invoice you're in the west end I assume.
I haven't seen any RA's or Evo's in Markham, except for 2 GSR's. (not surprised, these aren't exactly cheap rides)

So far so good, the longest I've had to crank it was maybe 1-1.5 seconds after doing short stops, ie. going to the grocery store.
In the morning or when I'm leaving work it'll fire up with no problems. My RA has almost 600km on it.

update on the hard starts:
they said "no abnormal starting" - so they did nothing to fix that problem....

but the other issue was throwing a mass airflow sensor code, so they replaced it....

I called Markham Mitsubishi, and the lady said if they can't replicate it I will have to pay a diagnosis fee. I've had the car for a month and a half and its happened 2 times.

Thats bull....tell them that you have had two issues with it and that it could potentially get worse. Mitsu has a flash for this problem. have them fix it or use the copy of the invoice I posted to show them. I hate dealerships that give you the run around and a load of **** trying to stick it to you.
