oil change?

Ok I know there is already a thread here about this but my question relates more to people who do their own oil change. I was gonna change the oil tonight but after peeking underneath the car it didn't look as simple as I had expected. Who has actually done this? Once the proper covers have been removed did everything go fairly smooth as in filter access and does the drain plug have a gasket/washer that needs to be replaced? Appreciate any info out there thanks.

oil change

It was a piece of cake.
If I remember.....there is a large "skidpan" with a smaller hatch that attaches to it. All that needs to be removed is the smaller hatch. It was only about 4-6 bolts.
Then it is just a spin on filter and a normal drain plug.

Thanks for the response. It was simple once the plastic cover to access the drain plug and oil filter has been removed. Did you add a washer to the drain plug? It looked like there was some sort of metal washer already in place on the plug that could not be removed. I left it alone and ran the car for a couple minutes, i didn't see any leak so i'm assuming its ok.

anyone know if the a new washer is need for the drain plug? a Lancer How-Tos thread says a new drain plug with new crush ring is needed. I assume the same would apply to our Ralliarts. I need to do an oil change soon so I wanna make sure I have all the parts needed before I start. Thanks

Damn!! You got raped by them!! Why did they charge that much? I had mine done by my dealership and only cost $59.99 with Mobil 1 Synthetic but I had the contract of VIP service to pay the difference. The service is up to $24.99 then I paid the difference. But I will be doing this on my own soon.

He's Canadian, so that's in Canadian funds. Still works out alot higher then your $60 though.

$60, $100 ouch those are really high. I did mine myself a couple weeks ago and it cost me around 40 bucks and that was with Mobil 1 full synthetic. Took about an hour to do.

I have free oil for live. Too bad i dont go to dealer though. They did my first oil change and when i went to do the second (after about 3,000miles) maybe a liter of oil came out. Dont trust them anymore.

Speaking of the stealership and their oil changes. Anyone else laugh at their Maintenance Service plan, Type A, Type B, Type C, crap. I don't know if the U.S has it.

Heres a link of the rip off.

http://www.richmondmitsubishi.ca/Med...656C9C234A.pdf

Fine print at the bottom also says that it doesnt include Taxes, shop supplies , environmental fees or levies.. so prices are alot higher then what they seem also. Type E can cost you easily over 1k. haha.

I did one oil change through my dealer**** with my old GTS and they took over 3 hours even with appointment. I said never again.
