Retune?

So im new to the whole RA world i just traded in an 03 Evo. i couldnt seem to find any posts to answer my questions so i hope you guys can help me out. if you install mods such as a SRI or UICP or LICP do you need a retune? i know for the evos if you install a intake you need a tune. is it nescessary for the RA? i know that it will make better gains with a tune but i dont want to void my warranty so im thinking of doing a few small things without voiding the warranty. thanks for the help

the only intakes out right now that i know of are ultimate racing's and AMS's for AMS's intake you have to replace the battery with their mini battery and you must have a tune with it yes.

I wouldnt think you would need a tune for the piping , but im not 100% positive.

IF your looking into AMS stuff like me, for their SRI you need a tune, for their boost pill you need a tune also, they offer a base flash and if you save up you can do the flash with boost pill and SRI all at once thats my plan becasue its only 500 to flash the ecu, say you got the intake first then the boost pill later, you would have to pay 500 at frist for the intake and the base flash, then later when you have the pill you would have to send it to get it reflashed again for the pill at another 200 bucks. As far as the ic piping goes you dont need a tune at all even with the fmic. youll be fine. I was tould by Chris and Dan at AMS. Also if you have plans for an exhaust they tould me that you would need a custom dyno tune for that....... hope this helps you out some.

There are other options out there now. I have the CP-E intake which is machined close to oem spec and doesnt require a flash or a small battery and is designed to be extended into a cold air intake when their cold air w/ box becomes available. Gains are approx 10hp 10tq across the entire rpm curve. Ill have more info plus pics and vids soon.

For an intake, it's always best to get a tune. In some cases it is absolutely necessary, the intake throws the stock tune out of whack so you run excessively lean (normally). For other intakes, it's not "needed" but the tune is still changed a bit.

I also know of another vendor that is thinking of providing performance flashes along with the parts. Im trying to talk them into it.

intake - tune = no purpose to buy the intake.

You have all that air flow coming in but your ECU doesn't know what to do with it. Thats
a waste of money.

If you really want to get the most HP out of your intake

get a upgrade the fuel pump and get a tune.

fuel pump upgrade (NOT REQUIRED)

Ill post the dyno and afr info for the intake as soon as I can.

I do agree that you will get more with a tune and hope we get a intake solution that doesnt cost $800+ Thats just too damn much. It kinda makes me mad.

And there's no way they can make a true cai for this car ams ha looked into it already and the tranny is in the way so its a no go, I'm sure other comapines will have the same problem.

I also agree. About getting an intake with no tune, to really get the mot out of it you need one. Not that I'm hating on ur, it just seems like a bad design to me. And yes I agree that ams is expensive but awsome quality comes at a cost, once again I'm not bashing ur just stating what I think. It up to you what you want to put on your car.

someone should make an insert for the hood to replace the vent that points the wrong way with one that forces cold air in. shouldnt be too hard. then you can make a CAI and put it right where that vent would be pushing the air in. instead of moving all this stuff and trying to put it somewhere rediculous to get fresh air.

that sounds like its right up my alley. i would like to gain a little power and get a nicer sound but like i said i know to get the most out of an intake you should get a tune but i sont want to void the warranty. i just want to make sure that adding a intake will not REQUIRE a tune. im intrested in the CP-E intake. where would i find one? can you post a link? thanks and post up the info when you get a chance i would like to see it.

There most certainly is a cold air option for this car if you have the right design and fabrication team. Ive seen the plans and discussed it with several people. Later on CP-E is planning on providing a CAI "extension", if you will.

Dont worry about he said, she said. Ill provide the data straight as it is when I get it.

I think there is some other really good news on the horizon very soon as well. But wait? I think we are getting a little off topic.

Couple a vids for ya...
