no one is trying to impress any one by saying my keys work.

i did not say you did not have a problem.

...just saying basically that they should work for me , you, and everyone.

if not , your dealer needs to make things right.

Sooo.... to add to this story i never found that set of keys.

anyway i go to the beach yesterday and i was wearing regular gym shorts with that little pocket for money etc. which is where i put the Fast-Key fob. So anyway my girlfriend asks me if i want to swim, which i wasn't planning to. So i finally get in swim for about 3-5 minutes when i suddenly feel the key is still in that pocket. I hadn't felt it thanks to the design of the pocket. So after bugging out in the water and frantically swimming back ( i never bought another set so this was my only one left) i run up to the car and hit unlock and...

IT F&$KING UNLOCKS!!! I tell you i nearly cried tears of joy. i then cracked open the fob and let it dry out, still a little worried that the salt may eventually get to it so i will order another fob anyway.

As in interesting and somewhat related story my girlfriend's mother put her bluetooth headset through the wash, and the damn thing worked after. God bless modern technology.

Wow, interesting.

I saw a video where an iPhone was dunked in a glass of Guiness for several minutes, and still worked after it was taken out. haha.

That's salt water... you better make sure nothing corrodes.

One thing I did to my old key fob and a coupla flash drives was, take it apart and really carefully put low temperature hot glue in a thin layer over all of the components. The buttons were the flexible rubber type so I made sure to seal the edges really well (it left the center alone so the button still worked). Then I coated everything up to the battery contacts.

I suppose you could also do that with wax (which is even lower temperature) as long as it doesn't fC&k up the buttons.

The FAST key fob is a pain cause it doesn't use any fasteners to keep itself closed.

That sounds like a great idea.

Yeah like i said, i know i'm not in the clear just yet. I'm hoping it did dry out before any damage could be done. I'm a little rough on my chemistry, will the residue (salt) left from the seawater still do damage?

Like i said either way the plan is to buy another fob asap.

Both fobs should work from the get-go. If they don't your dealer owes you a 2nd fob that works. Warranty the one that doesn't work.

cost to program a new remote out of warranty should be $50. $100 is overcharging. Maybe shop around.

the metal key is for when the battery is dead or the ECU/fob malfunctions so you can get in the car, unlock the steering and get it in nuetral. It won't start without a functioning fob/immobilizer.

if you ever get a remote wet, dry it out first before pressing any buttons, you got lucky, they usually short if you try to operate them while still wet. Spray some WD-40 it displaces moisture and protects from corrosion.

The re-programming was covered.

Thanks for the advice on the WD-40 Idea.

On a similar note, how do you get into your car if the battery is dead? There's a standard key, obviously, but what if you're out and don't have it with you? Or in another state or something? That's my only hangup about the FAST key system.

The standard key is built into your FAST key, so both your battery would have to die AND you would have had to have lost your FAST key. So, really, the only problem is if you lose/misplace your FAST key.

lol

Last night I threw my clothes in the dryer after washing them and I heard a clunking type sound. I opened the dryer and found my FAST key. I has mistakenly washed it with my clothes. I ran outside and checked it out, it still worked!
