Question Okay, another NOOB Question about "Boost"

Sorry for all these Noob questions I keep posting, I'm just trying to learn a thing or two about my '09 RA. Now you all keep referring to the turbo and saying "Boost". What is Boost?

Wow...

Boost is the opposite of vacuum in an engine. It's what really makes our cars go. Search the forum or Gooogle it for a more detailed explanation. Be careful, next time someone is going to flame you for a post like this one. Welcome to EvoM.

Haha, I figured I would get a couple people that would flame me for posting this, but w/e I would still get my answer at the end of the day. So now I understand Boost...But when people say "Let the boost build up" What does that mean and how do you do it?

boost doesn't occur until a certain amount of throttle is opened up and enough air is flowing through the exhaust to the turbo. that's when the turbo starts building air pressure (psi) and it's not instantaneous. the amount of time that it takes for the turbo to start spinning and thus build pressure is referred to as 'turbo lag'.

i think there's probably a FAQ on here about how a turbo works.... i just assumed everyone knew.

Has there every been a way to make up for that turbo lag in other vehicles? the first 2 seconds of the ralliart are awful and embarrassing.

Those first two seconds - that's not really turbo lag. The RA's turbo is relatively small, and the lag is almost insignificant. Those two seconds - is the ECU limiting the car's ability to launch. Done to "reduce drive-train shock". I'm sure the drive by wire is also inhibiting the car's launching abilities as well.

OT, I know, .

OP, clifhanger87 explained boost pretty well - amby's sig has a good FAQ for new owners. Check that out too
