RA Owners Post up

OK so I have a dilemma. I am currently making payments on a 2006 MR. I like the car, but I bought it used and I don't like that. I just don't trust other people. Long story short, I want to get a new car. I'm debating either a RA or an actual evo X. To be honest, I'd rather have an RA and make it modded fast than an evo X I can't afford to modify. Hoping to pay only around 30k for one, which is a long shot for a new evo X. I do like the performance overall of the evo's though for sure. Here's my question.
Do I:
A: Keep the IX MR that I have, make the uber expensive payments on it, not mod it (due to payment price), and keep the 5.89% rate on the loan I have now?
B: Go get an RA with 0% financing and have way less insurance payments and car payments and mod it to my little hearts content
C: Get a evo X with 0% financing, have insurance still be considerably less than my IX, and have high-ish payments and still possibly be able to modify.

Looking for opinions. If you want to bash, go bash elsewhere. Just trying to cover all the bases so I don't go for an option and later go "Oh crap, I didn't think about that!"

Thanks in advanced.

Quite honestly, if you plan to buy an RA and then just try to mod it to make it faster like an Evo, just go with an Evo. You'll get a better package and far better reliability out of a stock Evo than you would out of the RA, especially with the temperamental transmission.

To be honest I'm not hoping to get it fast like an evo. I just want to be able to mod it and make it my own. I could care less how fast it is, just as long as I enjoy driving it.

If it's ur dd and u can deal with the ride than go for the X. If u want a great ride at a good price and want to mod than go with the RA. Yes u can get it as fast as a stock X, but the X can do it better. And how often do u think u will come up against a stock X unless it's on it's way home from the dealer. Just saying
p.s. I love my RA

It is my dd and I'm not worried about ride harshness too much, but definitely a thought. Thanks for that. Like I said, I don't care THAT much about speed. I went from a 2007 scion tc to a 2006 evo MR and I still miss the tC some... haha.

i would keep the IX and it will be a lot cheaper to modify, but with a new car anything you do to the car it will void the warranty so keep that in mind

It doesn't seem to be cheaper to mod at all, and even if I bought a evo X MR. My insurance would drop by over 50$ a month, and if my payments were even a little bit less than they are on the IX, I feel like I could make out much better.

I'm pretty confused about this statement. Are you just repeating what everyone else says, that the transmission acts up, but you havn't had any problems?

I think he's trying to disagree with my statement that the transmission is temperamental.

I am NOT ALONE!.
been trying to decide between a used EVO X MR, or a 09 Ralliart.
but i've been told by some dealers that it is very difficult to get a used EVO X these days.
might have to go with Ralliart. but even that, since the new model is coming out, there probably won't be any RA left next month....is that true?

I say don't buy a car you aren't sure about wanting. If you really want a X get that. I wanted a WRX and an RA knowing they weren't their bigger bros. The REX only saw stg 2 and the Ra probably about the same. So know how far you want to take it in the future too.

Well, a few things to consider:

Will you be able to get rid of your current EVO without losing a ton of cash? You might find that in the end, your payment would equate to about the same amount you pay now, if not more.

What's wrong with your MR? Is it strictly the payment? I understand wanting a car that wasn't beat up on by anyone else, but has it had any problems? If you're planning on modding the R/A, well, that will void warranty unless you're careful and/or willing to remove all the mods when bringing the car in for service.

As far as an X is concerned, do you care if it's a GSR or an MR? Do you want the SST?

From my understanding, the X has a cushier ride than previous Evos, but not as cushy as the R/A which will probably be more along the lines of your old TC. So if you want a softer ride than what you got now, then the R/A might be a good choice.

Ideally, you need to really test both cars you're considering. You might be a bit disappointed with a stock R/A compared to your *****-to-the-wall Evo9.

I'll tell you what is tempting though - Getting an R/A for around $24k like some people on here supposedly got.

Thanks for posting. Gives me a lot of things to go through. According to KBB (Which isn't always correct, I know) I could break just about even as far as how much I owe compared to what the trade in value is. I would also trade my tC to counter what I'm upside down and get some down payment on it.

Nothing is really wrong with it, now. Long story short I bought it, and took it to the dealer. It had a new clutch, new trans, and new tcase put in at 9k miles (Due to previous owner). Now I baby it and it drives like a champ.

I will be doing ALL of my own services on the car and will not be going to the dealership unless there is a large warrantable issue going on with the vehicle (ie. Engine, trans, tcase, etc.)

To be honest, in a perfect world I would get a 6 speed manual, but seeing as how they don't offer that, the sst is the next best thing for me. To be honest, don't ask me why, but I hate 5 speed manuals. Thats one thing I did not enjoy about the tC.

Lastly, Just as long as the RA will handle mildly close to the IX I have now, I will be happy. As far as acceleration, it will have a bit of power when I want it and thats good for me. I don't care too much about ride quality, but smoother is definitely a plus for me. If I could get an RA exactly how I want, I'm sold, even if I have to finance the whole 24k at 0%.
