She runs rich Are you talking about the build-up at the bottom of the chrome? I have the same thing on mine.

I think it runs leaner after a tune so it may not be as much of an issue if you go that route. Can anyone verify?

All I can verify is that I, too, get the soot.

I have it too. It began to build up right from the beginning. I have since leaned it out a bit but have not cleaned it off to see if it comes back as bad. Any cleaning tips would be appreciated. Or, maybe some new exhaust tips are in order

just wash it every time you wash the car dude; stop being lazy

nah but seriously, if you clean it whenever you have a chance your chrome tips will stay nice for a longer time; if you let it build up for too long then you won't be able to take it out completely;

and yes it does starts to show up less after a tune, that I can confirm

Alrighty... sounds like alot of RA get it.. Sooo.. i won't worry too much about it. I'm not getting as much on the chrome outer pipes, but the inner pipe is just caked with carbon.

Does anyone know if the carbon build up is less with higher quality fuel??

Yea.. been washing my car almost every week. That's why I noticed the carbon build up on the pipes!! Thanks for the help guys!!

Yep, rich tune means heavy carbon...watch your footprint...

The factory tune is rich and that likely leads to the heavy carbon build up.

Maybe someone with a new tune can let us know if it makes a big difference on the build up.

You ARE putting premium in, right? (I use 93 octane)

I've had the soot build-up on mine since I got the car. No tune, and I run on 93 Octane. Figured it was just normal. I know the Evo 9's and 10's run very rich from the factory. So I just didn't think twice about it.

Yup this is normal. I wish someone would make the bumper guards like they did for the IX's so we dont have the 'diesel stain' look.

I've only ever ran 94 octane in my car (up to 10% ethanol).

What I'd like to know is...
Is there more carbon buildup with the AMS test pipe, with or without the resonator?

-yucky carbon on the bottom of my exhaust tip
