Question Need info

I am considering buying a 2010 Ralliart Sportsback and I have a few questions. I currently drive a 2008 Chevy HHR SS with a turbo, direct injected 2.0 & a 5spd. limited slip transaxle. I can get a GM stage 2 boost package and my current output - 260hp/260ftbls, will go up to 305hp & 290ftlbs and keep the warranty intact. I realy need to keep the "wagon" style , AWD would be a huge help in winter driving and my wife can't drive a stick, but the Ralliart's hp & torque numbers leave me wondering if I should be looking at a WRX instead. Here are my questions:
  1. Can I get the power #'s up without voiding the warranty?
  2. Is the 6spd auto/trans easy to drive if left in "Auto" mode when starting from a stop on a steep hill? (remeber this tip - if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy)
  3. Are there any tuners in the Pittsburgh PA area with Mitsubishi expertise
  4. And finally, what exactly is a turbo "pill"?
Thanks for your input!

^ another should i get a wrx thread inc!.. about 10-15mins research would yield good results also.. but since you are lazy and i have some time i will help ya.
  1. Can I get the power #'s up without voiding the warranty? Yes, and no.. It all depends on your dealership. Some don't mind minor bolt ons while others will void your warranty for anything.. You have to talk with the dealer about that.
  2. Is the 6spd auto/trans easy to drive if left in "Auto" mode when starting from a stop on a steep hill? (remeber this tip - if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy) Have you ever driven an auto? Then that should answer your question.
  3. Are there any tuners in the Pittsburgh PA area with Mitsubishi expertise. Not sure about this. But there is always the option of Email reflash.
  4. And finally, what exactly is a turbo "pill"?
Stolen from AMS'S webpage.

Using one of these pills is the only method of boost control that we recommend for any car with the SST transmission (i.e. any EVO MR, or any Ralliart)
Because of the unique way that the transmission gets loaded, unloaded, clutch released, etc. Manual boost controllers and electronic boost controllers do not work very well on these cars. When using an MBC or EBC on these cars they are very prone to boost spikes and overshooting of boost, resulting in very poor driveability.

The stock ECU in both the Ralliart and the EVO X has a 3D table for defining boost solenoid duty cycle which helps to regulate the turbo speed at low throttle conditions, and keep the wastegate open more and prevent boost spikes and uneven boost.

These will work on the 5 speed cars as well, but are not absolutely necessary.

Your car MUST have a tune to use this pill. The boost drops in the higher rpms even with the pill. It is a function of the airflow the turbo can produce and what the engine can injest.

Someone kill this thread now. No need for yet another WRX RA thread.

Bottom line the WRX will always slightly outperform the RA if you match mod for mod (dur). Personally my choice came down to the fact that i actually like the transmission, i think the AWD is superior and sheer looks. WRX is fugly to me.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I didn't realize that some of you are so touchy about mentioning the WRX,. Since the only local Mitsubishi dealer had no Ralliarts and I couldn't drive one, I don't know anyone who owns one and I figured you all could provide some first-hand knowledge. I agree that the awd, trans & styling are way better than the Subaru.

I agree with what every body else has said but if his wife/girlfriend CAN NOT drive a manual the WRX is out. He would have to go with the Impreza GT to get an automatic but you're looking at less power than the Ralliart.

Nothing to do with you or the wrx. but the WRX vs RA threads get waaaaay off topic and have been beaten to death.. quickly scanning the boards you should come across a few of them. instead of starting another thread with no effort in looking because you are lazy try using the search button.

Biggest grip community boards have is people being lazy and not using the search button, don't be that guy.
