straightpipe diameter

i recently purchased a new evo X and one of the first things i'm looking to mod is a TBE. i'm really leaning towards a full-on test pipe. i've read that the optimal diameter is 3". is there much of a difference if i go 2"? if so is it for better or worse? i know there's more backpressure the smaller you go, i just ain't sure if it's defeating my purpose of modding in the first place (which is to get the most possible HP outta the car that i can).

any input from people that actually have a test pipe would be greatly appreciated. thanks, guys.

PS: i've also read conflicting info about needing a tune after installing a test pipe. any thoughts on this, as well?

Why would you go 2" in the first place? Does anyone even make a 2"? Putting backpressure on a turbo with a pipe that size is really not a good idea.

i dont hear about many people going smaller than a straight 3"... maybe 2.75" but there wouldnt be any benefits.

as for the tune, many people think you need a tune but it is not extremely dangerous to go without one... its not ideal or a good idea but its not absolutely mandatory. its really just how much of a risk you are willing to take

Its all good, never hurts to ask. I was more questioning where you got the idea for a 2" test pipe.

Stick with 3". The bigger diameter the higher flow you will have but also the louder it will get

i was curious because a buddy of mine has a base lancer, non turbo. he's got a 2-inch test pipe and it sounds pretty badass. i totally forgot about the whole turbo aspect. thanks for the info, i'd rather ask and get a consensus first, than experiment and **** something up because i had too much pride to ask.

Go with a 3" or even a 3.5" pipe. 3" Should be good though..
