Rough FIRST shift

anyone else get these?

Like just the first shift from 1st to 2nd after u start up.

Mine tends to be rough if im on the gas in both normal and sport, paddles and auto, and if im off the gas, there is a slight hesitation .

But it never happens other then right then..

well it might be hard to just "skip a gear" with the sst

But yes its common, i find that if i baby the throttle for the first shift it changes alot smother. Oh and i only use manual mode.

Its always a little rough till it warms up.

It might have torque as one of the metrics that it measures when shifting automagically. When it's cold, it probably takes more to reach that torque before its willing to shift.

Never happens if you keep it in manual though.

Happens to me every morning. I just use the paddle for the first couple minutes. It doesn't happen when I leave work at the end of the day, though. Must still be warm enough?

I usually let the car warm up in the driveway for 5-10 minutes before heading out, I haven't noticed a rough shift into 2nd since I started doing this.

Driving in manual mode for the first 10-15 minutes is also an easy solution if you don't have time to let it warm up.

I'm not sure mine shifts rough, but the first shift or two after starting the car are held longer than normal (eg. the car holds higher revs).

Make sure you car is completely warm before you drive it. Turbo'd cars don't like to be driven before they are warmed up and can cause all sorts of problems. My VIII acted like I had a major boost leak. Make sure you're 100% warm before you drive.

Same here that first shift sounds and feels like my old vehicle in the winter, it would shift hard and cold until it was warm.... warming the car up at least 5 minutes (or until is gets below 1k RPM) and taking it slow for a minute after I am in gear and she is fine

Gotta get the fluids warm and the parts warm and its fine.

Speaking about warming and... how do you guys warm down your car?

I treat the car like a person getting ready for a workout. Have a warm up period where you get your circulation going and bring up your heart rate, work it out for a reasonable amount of time (if you run a lot you have to build endurance to do more and not hurt yourself, and not over heat or use up all your fuel) then have a cool down period where you bring down your heart rate.

I do the same with my car, since it has the AMS Human Heart Transmission Kit (joking)
