Move/Relocate OBD2 Port
I am going to install a computer in my car and want to have my Tactrix cable connected all of the time. I've connected it to flash to GST basemap and done some logging and noticed the Tactrix connector is kind of sticking out and a bit annoying when getting in and out of the car.
Has anyone tried or know if I can move the OBD2 port to a more convenient location?

Not sure if you would want to, as that would probably cause issue with warranty some how. Why not look into an OBDII Extension cord (http://www.kvaser.com/index.htm) or a longer USB cord that you can run hidden behind the dash? You can probably easily unhook the existing port from where it is to tuck it back so the tactrix module isnt hanging below the dash so much, but as for actually relocating it..you wont have cable length.
Being that your in California I'd be cautious about where you move the DLC port. Maybe it doesn't matter if it's in one of the spots where the DLC is usually located. But if a tech sees that the port has been moved during an inspection...

The USB won't work since the Tactrix is a small box sticking out and the USB cable plugs into that.
The OBDII Extension cord should work but the kvaser one costs $110.
I found one on Amazon for $12.95 that will hopefully work. http://www.amazon.com/OBD-II-Extensi.../dp/B000SBCHCA
Thanks for the help guys!

Id just undo the braket that holds your OBD II and use that extension cable to feed to your computer. Where are you planning on putting the cmputer? I'm interested in doing this as well.

Thanks speedie. I'll try unclipping it. Are there any tricks to unclipping or is it straight forward?
I am going to put the computer under the driver's seat. I am using an older laptop. It is a Dell D410 which is fairly small. It fits nicely under the seat next to the underseat air vents. I'm also using a special power supply, XM receiver, and an USB sound card. I'm bring all of this stuff over from my 04 Ralliart which I also had under the seat.

Its a normal plastic barb style clip so a bit of pressure on the sides while pushing back up on it. I put an eeebox under my seat. Having a friend of mine do a copy of windows CE with evoscan to replace the XP version I currently have installed.

Are you only running evoscan? You can do gps, xm, movies, and other cool stuff too but I don't know if that can run on win CE. I am using the Roadrunner as a front end.
I just saw the clip for the obd. I will go back to do that since I am taking my car in for something that will require obd.

I've got power cinema on it now which does everything from radio to HD-TV to movies and songs I also have a blueray drive in the car as the eeebox delivers HDMI picture. Trying to get the boot time down as XP can take up to 2 minutes to fully load and the built in UPS wont hold over night.

Nice! I'll have to check out that power cinema. My XP takes about a minute. I'll probably get a faster larger hard drive. Maybe a SSD which could hopefully get it down to 30 seconds or less.

I'll probably just zip tie it somewhere behind the knee airbag as speedie suggested. I have to take my car into Mitsubishi so I need to leave the port there for now. I'll probably take my car in sometime next week so I'll try to take some pictures of my setup when I'm done. I've already hid my GPS and XM receivers and wired up my car. I just need to finish mounting my screen and put the computer in.
