Is a Tune needed???

Im looking to maybe get my hands on a RA or a GTS by the end of this year or beginning of next year. I think that the RA is more than quick enough out the box for me. My question is that if I wanted to do a simple intake and exhaust and BOV and maybe engine management is a Tune still needed or can I just do straight bolt on like an NA car and reset the ECU? Im still learning about turbo cars. This will be the deciding factor if I get a RA or a GTS.

engine management? lol no clue what that is.

Bov = if you recirculate no tune is needed, if you want to vent it, buy an srt-4.

Exhaust = cat back wont require a tune, but it will be most beneficial

Intake = yes it will require a tune. The only intake even close to being safe is the injen intake, but those who dont tune it are foolish.

+1

You should be fine with tuning the GTS or RA without using an aftermarket engine management solution. Just buy a Tactrix cable and use a laptop or buy a small netbook if you want to do custom tunes or save the $$ and get a Cobb Accessport for the RA.

For me it drives me nuts to hear you have to tune a car after putting a CAI on. Oddly on my 06 GT Eclipse after about a day of driving A/F went from 13s to low 12s WOT. To me, the car should compensate for a minor mod. Just my opinion. I've got an Injen CAI on the way and intend to moniter my A/F ratio before and after to find out.

Its mostly because this is a turbo engine with a MAF sensor.
The pipe and open element filter changes the way the air hits and reads on the air meter wire in the sensor. Which changes all the extrapolation plots.

So when there is boost compensation x amount of boost it needs x amount of fuel. The intake changes this factor. I believe...

Yes, I remember those Honda days. You could bolt up everything and gain HP and not run into any A/F ratio issues. Then if you need those 10 extra hp you can tune it with a SAFC...

This is forced induction now...completely different animal. Now real power is from fuel and tuning since we have turbos for all more air.

Also N/A cars can run 12:1 a/f ratios with no problem....on a 11.0 compression motor as well...
I also had a b18c1 with ctr pistons...toda b's...

Thanks for all the info fellas. With that is necessary to run premium fuel in the RA or can you do Mid grade?

As for the bov. If it's not vented then it's ok to stay with the stock bov. I had I discussion with mike from road race, and he said he tested the stock plastic bov off the ra and the metal bov off the evo x. He said that both bov holds the same amount of pressure, all the components are the same just that one is plastic and one is metal. The difference between the ra plastic bov and the older plastic bov from the dsm or the evo 8 is that the ra bov has an o ring which will allow the bov to seal and hold more pressure. But if you want the vented sound wih the vented bov, you should get it tuned
