Just did a round trip of 1,300 kms (800Miles) and averaged 8.5L/100kms (27.7mpg).

My Nov/09 Spotsback has about 7k kms (4.5k Miles) on the clock and I found that my fuel consumption improved as the engine loosened up.

While doing work on my car I notice that the fuel tank is split either side of the tail shaft so I'd say this is a major reason why the fuel tank is a little lacking in size, as compared to the standard lancer which is front wheel drive only it wouldnt have that mod (this is only conjecture).

Mine hasn’t been tuned and is a sportsback which has worse fuel economy than the sedan.

You guys getting bad gas mileage should try switching to a different brand gas. For me there are some brands that I get horrible gas mileage and others I get awesome.

From measuring for almost a year (July til now), I get:

in city (on avg): 21mpg (9km/l or 11.1L/100km)
on highway (short trips, like Calgary to Carstairs, so 75km door to door): 28.5mpg (12km/L or 8.3L/km)

I've noticed big gains once I reached 9000kms on the odometer (my 3rd oil change done myself) and a minor gain once the evox maf + aem filter went on.

Thank god I didn't buy this car for the fuel economy though! My GTI with the 2.0T really showed the difference between direct injected and SEFI...it would do ~29mpg in city commuting to work (I don't take the freeway, just main streets).

You went from a MKV to the Ralliart too?

Through word of mouth I always heard that BP has the best quality and Shell was next quality wise. I am not sure if there is any testing to support this but that is what I have always heard.

With the problems with BP and the way they do business, especially these last few years I wouldn't believe they come close to having great gas, they're always trying to cut back on things including saftey. Also look how they treat their workers, seems to me they do not have care for human life not to mention the latest oil spill catastrophe...

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

I found this site regarding best fuel which I am now not getting BP gas again. Shell is very common in SC so I will probably start going there.
