fuel consumption

fuel consumption

When I checked my fuel consumption I had a little surprise: best city milleage I done was 17,4 miles/US gal (13,5 liters/100km). To reach this result I rode very smooth. In fac I had baby it! All 09 ralliart drunk like that? Are there some tips I can do for optimised fuel economy.
I agree with performance car can have a higher appetite at hard driving but when a 2 L engine was baby running it is normal?

Despite this poor result I love my car!

For me if I have a lot of stop and go traffic, I get 18-20 mpg and at late night on the same roads I get 25.6 mpg if I really baby it. I have to keep my eye on the average mpg all the time since when I don't I get about 20-22 at night.

The Ralliart is only rated for 17mpg city, so what you have sounds about right. I have exceeded the EPA estimate on the highway, ~27mpg but for my commute which is 80% highway, I get 24-25 with some spirited driving.

When you compare it to the GTI's 2L it seems low, but the Ralliart is heavy and AWD.

I think my biggest surprise thus far has been the range. I'm only about to get about 200 miles to a tank. Which mathematically is about right, but is just way short compared to my old car which was about 340.

The mileage is a little disappointing but you'll get used to it.

A couple of things that you can do is shift ~2500 or below, keeps the turbo from spooling up. Accelerating smoothly also helps. I tend to also coast as much as I can so I accelrate quickly (but smoothly) to a faster than normal speed and coast more.

Mileage also seemed to go up a little after break in. But still, I get about 13-15 in very heavy stop and go with a lot of traffic lights. Otherwise it's ~17-18 city. Highway is between 24-26 (not too bad). A coworker has a honda accord v6, it gets similar mileage. As did my old dodge stratus es with a 2.4l mitsubishi v6 in it.

It's not direct injection, which is part of the problem. The other is the weight + awd. Hyundai I believe uses the same motor with direct injection to get something like 265hp in the new sonata but 35mpg highway (10mpg more than the ralliart). The new audi S4 gets 17/25 with awd but it's a V6 making 333hp.

Yeah it seems it's less efficient than other new cars right now with more HP.

I totally forgot about it not being direct injection.

A lot of turbo cars run rich from the factory. GST's base tune helps with having higher gas mileage (tuning, in general, from any company. Only said GST because you can get theirs for free.)

Wow, I have a long highway commute and get average of 29 and when there is traffic I get around 25 average...

The mileage seems to be very dependent on how you drive and the conditions where/when you are driving. Yes, the RA runs very rich from factory, and it seems that leaning out the fuel mixture improves the mileage by 1-3 mpg.

That being said, the mileage itself still varies greatly. I, depending on traffic conditions, get between 16 and 21 mpg driving the SAME route. My driving style doesn't change, but traffic, weather conditions and timing (traffic lights) do.

While your mileage does seem to be on the low end, it is still within the expected mileage range for the car. Overall, my averages seem to be 20 city/ 26 highway +/- 2 to 4 mpg. That is PRE tuning. I am a fairly conservative daily driver.

Before I switched over to a Evo X turbo I did a stage 2 flash with the AMS intake and interooler which helped my fuel economy a little bit (maybe an extra 2-4 mpg). After I added the bigger turbo it made it worse than when I started but I would rather have an extra 110 whp than a few extra mpg.

I was getting 17 MPG all day long stock. After my swap and being tuned I am now getting 20MPG city all day long and I don't drive easy by any means. It really depends on the kind of gas you use. If I run BP gas I get horrible gas mileage vs Kwik stop (not sure what kind of fuel they use) where I get very good gas mileage and it seems to run much better.

On the highway I seen anywhere from 24-28mpg.

The fuel consumption is pretty bad, even after a tune! That being said, my fuel consumption has been getting better once I've done more kms.

On stock turbo I consistently got around 17-18 city and 25-26 hwy. With the FP Green I get 22-23 city and 28+ hwy consistently. I've even had 30+ hwy on several trips!
