X/RA Hood

Sup yall, well just got my 10 GTS and am trying to keep clean and simple for the most part. I was wondering if anyone knows of someone who may own a X/RA who is wanting to sell their stock hood maybe upgrade for something else. If so please send me a PM, take care!

Your best bet is to hit the "For Sale - EVO X Private" forum. Even though you can' post yet, send someone a PM if you see something you like.

So the scoops for the RA are for show only? If so I will trade mine when i get it as well. It may be the only thing i really don't care for on the car (visually).

the hood of RA is made out of Aluminium, which is ALOT lighter than the standard Lancer one.

The 2 front "vent" is to cool down the engine (radiator) and the middle vent is to cool down the turbo sitting near the firewall

This ^

The vents and "scoop" on this hood are functional.

Not for show in the least. The sheetmetal inside those vents is there for a purpose.

When driven, the front (2) vents are exhaust ports. At these vents, a vacuum is formed by a lower outside air pressure. The lower outside air pressure pulls hot air from the radiator. The sheetmetal which partially restricts these vents is for air-metering, and is calibrated to maximize exhaust airflow from day-to-day driving. By restricting these vents, a greater pressure differential between outside air and engine bay air is generated.

If these restrictors are removed, there will be less force generated by the vacuum due to a reduced air pressure differential. This will result in reduced performance of the vents until you reach speeds to restore the original ratio.

However, if you constantly drive at high speed, the air-metering devices might be too restrictive, as 100% of the vacuum generated would not be transferred to the engine bay; Nonetheless, the vents will perform to 100% of their design. In my opinion the latter is preferrable to the former, as function at 100% of design standard is superior to 70-80-90% of design standard.

When driven, the first function of the rear vent is an intake port, drawing cooler, ambient air to the turbocharger. The sheetmetal in this location is designed to channel airflow past the turbocharger. The rear vent's second function is to increase engine bay air pressure, assisting front (2) vent function.

While stopped, the rear vent is a simple exhaust port. It allows engine bay air heated by the turbocharger, to escape via the sheetmetal chimney into the atmosphere.

If you install a solid bonnet-or one of inferior functional design, the paint might just cook-off, and you'll certainly notice increased engine bay temperatures.
