Looking to buy a 2011 RA but worried about reliability

Im looking to buy a 2011 RA because I hear that it will finally come with a 5speed which makes it a very tempting car to buy. I was originally looking at getting a WRX but just never really liked how it looked.

One thing i'm worried about is the reliability of Lancers. I know they are not like Civics and known for their reliability and have heard many horror stories about how unreliable Mitsubishi's are in general.

There is even a website called mitsubishisucks
http://www.mitsubishisucks.com/

Other than that I love how the car looks and performs. I just want something that will last and not breakdown. Currently I have a 300zx and am looking for a replacement vehicle.

Thanks

Every car has the chance to break down. Also, don't read anything about the 2011 Ralliart, its all nonsense.

if that heap of junk of a fear monger website has your questioning Mitsubishi, please don't type in ford, gm, chrysler, saturn, pontiac, hummer, saab, mercury, oldsmobile(whats that?), lincoln, toyota, honda, mazda(ford hehe), kia hyundai, or basically every other manufacturer outside of ferrari, lambo, and who ever makes the larda.

Seriously though, the car is very reliable, the engine is bullet proof, and the transmission has shown to work very well.

I understand that the Lancer is made in Japan, but that doesn't exactly mean anything. I was reading around online about Lancers and found some comments by people who owned it.

"Sometimes doesn't start. Dealer can't figure out why.
Loud creaking noise in suspension in turns. Dealer unable to fix after 13 attempts.
Loud scraping noises in front struts under any compression, or bumps in the road.. dealer also unable to fix.
Often will not shift into reverse... sometimes will not shift into first.. especially annoying when the red light I'm stopped at turns green.
Interior panels rattle and buzz on acceleration, and if the stereo is on even quietly.
Sunroof leaks.
Service indicator intervals always goofed up, probably also dealers fault.
Oil leaking out of engine, this one just started last week...
Front seats are starting to break and make creaking noises.
I hear there have been some recalls, but I have not received any notices yet."

"From about 5000 miles, I started getting lots of scratches just everywhere. There are even rock chips on the hood. Now I have 9000 miles on it, and you just name any part, I've got chips or scratches anywhere. The paint job of this car is horrible.
Also, I started hearing weird noise since 2000 miles. It kind of sounds like small steel ball rolling on rough flour. It happens on 4th, 5th gear, from 1500-2000rpm if I push the gas pedal more than half way."

I'm not saying its a bad car by any means, I just want to know what I'm getting into. I know Honda has tons of fail ricer Civics on the street and are just plain embarrassing to look at, but if the Lancer breaks down 5 years from now and the Civic keeps rolling for another 20... I don't know.

Most of the horror stories I hear are from people who own 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen Eclipses. And I've always heard in general that Mitsubishi, although from Japan, is not know for its reliability. And the fact that now they are partnered with Hyundai, makes me a little wary.

I haven't been able to find much to read about the Lancer Ralliart online. Any tips?

Thanks. I really want to buy this car but I just want to know all the facts before I do.

ps. i found the 2011 info here.

The only real complaint i have about my mits is that the paint does suck.
Other than that i cant complain too much.
Parts are going to fail on cars no matter what brand it is.

Then don't buy a Mitsubishi. You either like the car or you don't. It is as simple as that.

If you do the same reaserch on the Honda products you will find the same information on the net... but you won't because you already beleive the Honda products are high quality. Just saying you're interogating the Mits to a completly different standard that any other car you are looking at. Level the playing field or don't even waste your time.

I'm just saying, on an average reliability standpoint, how do Lancers hold up in general? I'm not saying I don't like Mitsubishi and saying "you either like the car or you don't" doesn't really say anything about the car. That's like saying because I like the RX8 I would buy it, even overlooking the fact that it sucks gas like an SUV or its rotary engine is prone to breakdowns. Just because you like a car doesn't justify owning one at all.

A car needs to be able to withstand normal driving without breaking down or w/ any major problems.

I didn't say Honda is better than Mitsubishi, just saying that on average, Honda users have much less complaints than Mitsu owners.

By the way, how does the paint suck? I have never even heard of that before... does the paint chip off or something?

The paint does seem to chip easily on the front bumper an hood. A lot of people have complained about it. Ive had a few here an there.
Granted its not the new RA but ive owned mine since 2004 and haven't had a thing go wrong with it that wasn't a result of modding.

This info has benn proven time and time again to be fake. There will be no advantage to the 2011 over the 2010 or 9. The first open door will be 2013 when mitsu works to model over again.

You need to stop reading garbage on the internet, and go drive the damn thing. Who cars what joe doh has on his mitsu. Thats all heresay.
