$180 for a Tactrix cable to connect the car to a laptop
$0 for ECU Flash software
$20 for a GST Boost Pill
$0 for a GST Base map
$300 for EVOX intercooler and UICP (You can find these in the For Sale threads)

For about $500 you can get about the same power as a stock Evo

Replacing the stock tires with just about any other tire will get you better grip.

For about another $500 more you can add a larger rear sway bar and springs, which will significantly improve the handling. It won't match an Evo, but it will stick alot better.

Wow that sounds really good. Will you be able to keep a warranty when do the ECU reflash? Any chance of frying the ecu in this whole process?

If you flash back to stock before you take it to the dealer, you should be fine with the warranty, but there are no absolutes.

I think there is little chance of frying your ecu during a flash. I'd say its 99% safe, but the experienced tuners can give you better insight.

As for the power use a Cobb AccessPORT to get your power with stage one and stage 2 and leave alone the boost pill there system is plug and play and allows you to monitor the car.

Huh? Are you saying use a boost pill with the Cobb AP, or are you saying don't use a boost pill with the Cobb AP?

You don't need to use a boost pill with there system. I have a Ralliart putting down 242hp 277tq and the only modification I did was the evo x intercooler and k&n with there accessport best money I spent.

Agreed. About $0 total. Especially with the GST basemap v2...I'd think it's near the same.

"The Free GST reflash" what is this "FREE" and who is providing it for free? I'm pretty well versed in tuning - however - it's all Ol'School OBDII nothing about the world of ECU reflashing. My question is - if you go to a reputable "tuning shop" one with a Dyno and experience... will they have the equipment to perform a reflash on a stock RA? Or will I have to install some kind of hardware (like the COBB Access port mentioned).

Thanks!
LRA Joe

*EDIT* OK I just read through the GST post in the other area. And saw the Tactrix Openport 2.0 - Now its all making sense...

Is that a K&N intake or just the drop in filter?

Sounds like there are plenty of options at least. The one thing I like about the Accessport idea is that you can go back to stock in about one min and no sending your ECU in to get flashed. I just dread the idea of taking it off and shipping it out. I need to read that post about the GST tune because I don't know anything about it either.

Anything tha allows you to do it yourself is a good solution and not having to send it in. I like the Cobb programmer since its a handheld data loggers and monitor also not just a programmer. I have a laptop and a netbook and could have went this way with another manufacturer but figured it was just easier for me to get some the tuner could easily support me with. The GM vehichles and the Fords and Dodge's that I have driven over the years had a superchip or a power programmer or something on them the only experience with a standalone ecu programming. I have is the Megasquirt open ecu that I have started for a efi conversion in my Mustang and it is a great system but its a tuner project and this is my daily driver something that I would rather plug a cable into and just throw a map on and go. Or be able to goto Cobb and have a pro map built while they dyno tune it and have that on my programmer and be able to revert back at anytime or uninstall the all the programming all together and go back to stock. The one map I really like is the valet map since those ******** can't really do anything to my car and abuse it and it only take me 15 sec's to switch maps.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but i wanted to ask a relevant question. i know cobb gives warnings about adverse reactions to having anything else but the stock filter in the car with stage 1 93. i am looking to buy an AP this week and was looking for some input- would you all recommend taking my HKS filter out or would it be OK to leave in with stage 1 93 flash? All i have is HKS filter and injen UICP. What's the verdict with these 2 bolt ons with an AP flash?

As long as you do not install an aftermarket intake, you'll be fine.
